RIM's latest patent details automatic volume adjustments based on handset placement -- ... - 0 views

  •
People tend to get upset when they are trying to hear the person on the other end of the phone. It could be very irritating not not hear the person and we tend to struggle to higher the volume. Now RIM has created a handset that changes the volume determining how far the device is away from your ear. It has detectors that adjust the volume. Its very cool because it can sense when you are walking and talking so it can change the volume. It relates to this course because it take in operating system to know what to do and it is on a hardware. It also needs to be programmed to work.

Harry Potter e-books now available to muggles -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
E-books are more co-manly used these days instead of actual books. This is because you can store all these books on a digital device without having to carry a bunch of books around. I think it is good that Harry Potter is going to e-books because it is a very popular book that many people all over the world enjoy. Each book will cost $8-10 and it appears there are going to be enhanced books on the way. This relates to the course because you need to program the books onto the website so you can buy them and put them on your e-reader. The e-reader is the hardware where you can read the books. As well, i bet most of the people in this class have watched or read harry potter :)

Harry Potter e-books now available to muggles -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
As the title of the article says, Harry Potter is now available to read on e-books for those that are interested. Since e-books are being advertised quite often on TV and in the media, it is understandable that the Harry Potter series should go on e-book as well. On a personal level, I would rather stick to the paperback and hardcover books instead of the e-book versions because, while it is definitely saving trees needed to make the books in stores, I've definitely become accustomed to having a book preference instead of a digital one since that is the way I've always seen it.

Samsung tweaking Face Unlock to require blinking, smiling still optional -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
When your friends get into your phone and know your password it can get quite annoying. Now Samsung has an app that allows you to open your phone with facial expressions. You can blink a certain amount of times and smile and then it will open. This amazing because there has never been something like this before. It relates to the course because you need the software and app to get this on your phone. I personally like this because it would be fun to unlock your phone with facial expressions. It makes a social impact because then it will be harder to hack your friends phone. Overall, I think this was a great idea Samsung brought up.

They have many dedicated players and always come up with awesome new ideas for the system. Even though I personally do not own an xbox, I believe these new controllers are a very good idea. Although they may not look very different, they are actually going to be more sleek and come in multiple colours like red and blue. They will also be more shinier. They will be released in mid-may and sell for $54.99. This relates to the course because it is a hardware that connects with a software. Nike decided to come out with a new app that helps you exercise and get prepared for sports. This app connects with a pair of shoes they made and it is able to detect your speed, jump height etc. As well, this app has various techniques and warm ups you can do. This app is for i-phones and is available in the summer. I feel this new technology is good for everyone because it makes you want to become physically active and you can learn new techniques for sports that you never knew before. As well, this relates to the course because the app is a software and sensors in the shoes are the hardware. They had to program the app for it to work and sensor properly.

THis brief articae generally describes Apple's new initiatives to become more eco friendly. I think that Apple has such a huge impact world wide because they are the leading corporation for anything electronic. I think it is great that they are using their status in a positive way: to endorse eco friendly power sources. I believe that the changes that Apple has done will certainly raise awareness of a "greener" planet. I hope that many other corporations will follow in Apple's footsteps to help create a better and cleaner world for all.

Biological computer can decode images stored in DNA chips, applications remain unclear ... - 0 views

  •
This article is interesting to me because it tells how scientists have discovered a way to decode DNA chips using biological computers. The DNA chips contain images/info that are "hidden" in the chips, so to say, and are not able to be seen unless they are decoded by these computers. I think that this would be helpful for many people (not only scientists) because it can be useful for keeping important information stored for personal use granted that they have the right equipment to decrypt the chips first.

BlackBerry phones could get rhythm-to-unlock, like dun-da-da-dun-dun -- Engadget - 0 views

  •
This article is about how blackberry phones could have a rhythmic touch to unlock them rather than a code or face unlock. I think this is really awesome because a lot of people are blackberry users and it would be fun to have. I have a blackberry so this would want me to have a touch blackberry just so I can have an unlock like they created. This tap unlock detects the location and magnitude of your touch. This relates to the course because the blackberry is the hardware and the actual program to detect the touch is the software. You need to program the actual app for the blackberry devices.
