This article talks about how Canadians are purchasing more and more electronics. (Cell phones, iPads, tablets) The article also talks about how Canadians are also signing up for Netflix, a service that allows users to watch movies in the comfort of their own home. The Media Technology Monitor states that 28 % of English speaking Canadians owned a tablet at the time of the survey which was 7 times the amount in 2010. I think this this is a result of society and the services that businesses now offer that they hadn't previously. EX: Now, we can watch movies on our tablets, but let's say 10 years ago, we would have to go to a movie theater. I believe that portable devices have positively affected our lives. These devices make everything we do more convenient, for example, cell phones allow me to contact my friends anywhere in the world and they also provide me with help in an emergency. I strongly believe that portable devices have positive effects in our lives, and judging from the increasing amount of technology users, many others think so as well.

It is about a group of people researching and creating a prototype of a refined hairline grooves of a peacock. The product was pretty much reflected with sunlight and was unaffected by viewing angles. It is used for people that use e-readers. They only have static images currently, but they are thinking about putting moving images on it. This is also made as a reflective display for e-reader users. Having an e-reader isnt really bad. It is portable meaning that you can take it outside with you and be able to use it, but also this article will help all the e-reader users because it will give them static images, and soon moving images. I dont see any negative things about having this device. In my opinion this might help e-reader users because it will give them the entertainment to see static images, and soon moving images, rather than just thousands of words.

This could have been a problem with Google Chrome, but this brings up something that we take for granted. We go on to websites not knowing what kind of virus' and malware could be on it. Even the biggest websites could have malware, and they could be found on the ads you find on all big websites. To prevent yourself from get malware on your computer, you could download Ad Block on Google Chrome so no ads are shown on webpages. Privacy and Security is something to be concerned about because anyone can access your computer with virus', and you want to protect not only yourself, but everyone in your household.

This article talks about the current state of transparency in smartphones and where we are headed. So far, transparent smartphones have only existed in concepts and prototypes that have never gone into full production. This is largely due to the difficulties in creating fully transparent smartphones while keeping the same quality that smartphones like the iPhone. Another problem that this new type of smartphone is facing is that is currently has no software so it's difficult to actually visualize what the end product will be. There is also the fact that the consumer market may not even want transparent smartphones and that we're fine with our current ones. The company that created the prototype, Polytron, has more money to work with and their current prototype is already looking better than most previous attempts at creating a translucent electronic. Polytron stated that we may see transparent smartphones by the end of this year. That is possibly a little too optimistic but within a couple of years we may see transparent electronic devices emerge resembling those in movies we have seen today.

Social networking is a very big thing in today's society.  there are many social networking sites on the Internet, but none as big as Facebook.  With approximately 1 billion users, it is no wonder why it is so successful.  But with everything comes a consequence.  There are many downfalls to using Facebook.   One reason why Facebook is a problem to today's society is because since we are so addicted to Facebook, it can damage our minds. Receiving and answering a notification results in a hit of dopamine, a chemical neurotransmitter associated with the motivation and rewards response in the human brain.  Dopamine is also released when we consume drugs, etc.   This seems foolish right?  well In China, Taiwan, and South Korea, "Internet Addiction Disorder" is already accepted as a psychological diagnosis.  Facebook and other social networking sites can have damaging effects, such as a decrease in our attention span.  Since 2000, our collective attention span has increased by 40% It effects our lives because since almost everyone is on Facebook, or any other social networking site, almost everyday, we start to become distracted, less focused, and have a shorter attention span, which could potentially mess up future generations.  For one, we become distracted in class, and instead of listening to the teachers, we're always on our phones (or any other devices) checking our notifications. Now that we have learned what Facebook and other social networking sites can do to us, is there really a way to resolve this issue?

Texting is one of the most popular ways of communicating with other people. However, do we really benefit from it? One could argue that it is convenient, but others believe that the language people, especially the youth, use in texts affect their grammar. Some might even say that sometimes they include abbreviations and slang such as b/c, r, and u, in their English assignment without even noticing the problem, I know I have.  In 2011, an estimate of eight trillion text messages were sent, and those between the ages of 18 and 29 make up 95% of the texting population. Many are concerned about the future of the English language since so many people are fond of texting. There was even a National Texting Championship in 2012 that was won by 17-year-old Austin Wierschke who was able to text 149 words in 39 seconds. It seems that texting have become an important part of many lives. Some abbreviations have become so popular that even the Oxford English Dictionary has including them into their dictionaries making abbreviations such as LOL, OMG, FYI, TMI, and BFF, official to the English language. In my opinion, texting is not a crime. It is a convenient and effective way of communicating with other people. I believe that there is nothing wrong with using abbreviations in texts as long as it does not affect the way I write. 

On the internet, it,s our responsibility to keep our personal lives private. This article is about how 3 celebrities got hacked, and how we can learn from it. The celebrities include Paris Hilton, who's phone got hacked and her personal information was posted. Scarlett Johansson had nude pictures of her, and lastly, Brett Favre who also had nude pictures of himself. We need to be aware of the fact that our personal information may be falling into the wrong hands. Celebrities have different lives than us, particularly those who have paparazzi who follow them around all day which means the information a celebrity chooses to keep on a digital device is in jeopardy. Imagine if someone was constantly trying to hack into your e-mail or social accounts to post embarrassing things about you? This is why we have to be careful about what we post online.

We are all familiar with social games, such as Mafia Wars and Farmville, and Facebook has been recently seeing most of their income from in-game advertisements and in-app purchases. Facebook has seen a 13% growth in gaming users since September 2011 (226 million - 251 million.) Facebook now has over 900 million users, and over 500 million users are utilizing Facebook via a mobile platform. Facebook says that games grow on the network in five different ways: App Center, Notifications, News Feed, Timeline, and games users have Bookmarked. 8 out of the 10 top iOS games have Facebook integrated, and the top two categories of games users play on Facebook are 'Simulation' and 'Games and Puzzles.' This relates to Portable Computing because Facebook has recently taken large steps to improve the user's mobile experience, understanding that most of their core audience is on smart devices. This relates to eLifestyle because we see these social networks like Facebook integrating gaming into the user's social feed, allowing them to spend more time on the site. This relates to Economics because as games become cheaper and more accesible, we see that most of the gaming market is taken by mobile games; no longer do we have to go to an electronics boutique to purchase a $60 triple-A game, when we can buy the $0.99 version of said game or another digitally. Mobile games are the consumer conscious choice because you get the most "bang for your buck." This relates to ICS20 because although most of us say that our time on Facebook is deteriorating, we still are entrenched in the social gaming environment; this is demonstrated by Facebook's 65 million user growth in 2012 alone.

This article is of interest to me because it explains what the best processor is for gaming. I have always loved playing video games and I am constantly on the computer but now I can do both. Learning about which processor is best for gaming is important and significant for someone who wants to play video games on the computer. Choosing the right processor is key to have the best gaming experience possible. This starts from choosing a processor that is in your price range, has powerful graphic features, but can also fulfill your needs of playing fast, at a high performance, and without it taking too much space on your hard drive. Overall, I have a better understanding about gaming on the computer and I hope to use this information to start to game on the computer in the most efficient and fastest way to play.

This article is about how a teen in China had sold his own kidney to get the money to pay for an ipad and iphone. Now this teen is going through renal failure, meaning his body can't filter out toxins so he is going to need a kidney transplant. The doctor, surgeon and medical staff involved in this case have been charged. I found this article to be really eye opening. I couldn't believe that someone would go through so much trouble to get an ipad and iphone. It shows how much society cares about having the latest thing. Its a bit sad now that the teen has to have a kidney transplant because of this. 

XBOX appears to be one of those gaming systems made by Microsoft, that has become very successful over the years. They have many dedicated players and always come up with awesome new ideas for the system. Even though I personally do not own an xbox, I believe these new controllers are a very good idea. Although they may not look very different, they are actually going to be more sleek and come in multiple colours like red and blue. They will also be more shinier. They will be released in mid-may and sell for $54.99. This relates to the course because it is a hardware that connects with a software. As well many people will be happy that they can get nice new controllers to replace their old ones. 

Microsoft announces a new Xbox 360 controller, also known as the special edition chrome series. This controller will satisfy gamers who like to have swag while they're playing because all their friends will be jealous of this amazing, shiny controller. In other words, you should buy this controller to have swag. Microsoft also announced that there will be three controllers to be released during may. It comes in blue, red, or silver. This article briefly discusses the upgraded Twitter App for IPhone's and Android Apps. This will be at great use for those who constantly use this App to tweet for the following reasons. To commence, one is now allowed to copy the tweet while holding over the text which will be useful because when wanting to remember a tweet and save it in your notes per se, you don't have to constantly memorize the tweet and go back to read what it is if you forget. You can simply copy and paste the tweet. Also, it will be fast and easy to use without having to leave your timeline when viewing a profile. This will also be at use because you don't have to re-scroll through your timeline after viewing a profile and going back to see the timeline. 

I found that this article was very interesting because Facebook is getting more advanced over the years. Facebook has created a new feature that lets you verify your account. This feature also allows you to also give you the option to show an alternate/nickname to facebook. This new feature is said to have already been made and some people have already been giving the option to verify their account. if you want your account verified you have to wait to be given the option by facebook. 

This article is about web sites you can go on your computer while working which relieves stress. The websites are Youtube time Machine, YouSwear, Unsuck It, Unhear it, and the things you would have said. These sites are also for entertainment if you are bored. Youtube time machine takes you back to the popular videos that were played during a specific year. YouSwear is a site where you can search up swear words in different languages since you are not allowed to swear during work. Unsuck it is a site which defines some of the business terms that you might not understand. Unhear it is a site that plays a bunch of random songs to help you get an annoying song in your head, and the things you would have said is a site that lets you express what you wished you have said to someone.

This is sooooo cool! It's going to be awesome to wear glasses that have all the functions of a smartphone without having to actually take a smartphone out! It allows for stuff like a HUD when you're walking around, so it can point you to a location that you specified. The only problem with this is that you may look a little dumb trying to navigate the interface out in public. (You have to tilt your head to scroll and stuff)

This changes everything. Now, instead of having to find a clean cloth or using your own shirt to clean your dirty iPhone's screen, you now have a portable microfibre cloth that you can use anywhere, anytime. The case is called "WipeCoin iPhone Case". I think this is a useful case to have because for me, most of the time, my iPhone's screen gets sticky and dusty after using it all day. for those who have an Iphone and love to talk to their siri, but start to notice that siri is starting to get boring. YOU CAN NOW MAKE SIRI CURSE! here are some ways to make siri curse like you've never heard before! One way could be, to send yourself an offensive text message, change your name to an offensive name (shown in this link but i should not say it) Siri will get confused and start to call you that. Another way could be, to play a song with curse words in the song title. (there are examples of songs in the link that i should not also say) Tell siri to play the song and she will repeat the song title before the song plays. So if you have nothing to do with your life and want to have fun with siri, NOW YOU CAN!

Who has Tumblr? i have it and i friggin love it! I love to look at the pictures, videos and statuses people reblog and post. Many people have great blogs and some have just terrible, pointless blogs. Here are some blogs that are just ridiculous... Especially the second picture and the third one. THEY ARE SO BAD THAT I JUST LOVE TO LAUGH AT HOW BAD THEY ARE. Yes this sorta does relate to this course. If you make a tumblr, at least don't make it a pointless one. I MADE MY POINT.

Today is the day the new iPad 3 will be coming out! March 7th!  Some rumors have been going on, saying this new iPad will not be called iPad 3, but iPad HD. This new iPad will have many new features, but one of the reason why it is going too be much better then the iPad 2 is the new iPad will have a higher resolution, and it has an improved processor and there's an option of getting a model equipped with the 4G LTE.
