Taylor, Joshua C. Futurism. New York: Museum of Modern Art, 1961. Questia:Trusted Online Research. Cengage Learning, 2010. Web. 11 Nov. 2010. This book is about the art movement of Futurism and the background information of how it came to be. The book tells us about the goals Futurism wished to accomplish. It wanted to create new risky advancement in the art world and did just that. The major part of the book is its accomplishments through various artists. It takes a look at some of those major contributing artists of Futurism such as Umberto Boccioni. It analyses the Manifestos with and how it was the catalyst to the whole movement. This contains a good amount of valuable information that can be very helpful.

This is not a citable scholarly source, but an article listing other sources of information about hip-hop, making it a good find for those researching the topic. The OhioLINK abstract: This bibliographical essay describes a wide array of resources relating to hip-hop culture and rap music, including definitions and overviews, bibliographies, discographies, encyclopedias, historical and biographical information, articles and databases, sound and video recordings, lyrics, information about rap songs, hip-hop terminology and slang, photographs, Web sites, and research collections. The final section is devoted to collecting hip-hop and rap materials for libraries. While the essay is primarily intended to serve as a guide for music librarians who provide reference service and library instruction, and to those with collection development responsibilities, it may also prove useful to educators, students, and those beginning to conduct research on hip-hop or rap.

Duchting, Hajo. Pablo Picasso. Munich, 2008. Print. This is a book with a lot of information about Pablo Picasso. I recently ordered it from OhioLink and have not received it yet. I can not provide a whole of information on this source for that reason.

Gower Price, Charles. "Sources of American Styles in the Music of the Beatles." American Music 15.2 (1997) : 208-232. JSTOR. Web. 15 Nov. 2010. This article explores the American influences in the Beatles music. The band took in a range of influences from American mainstream pop and rock and roll musicians including: Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley. The Beatles first debuted in America on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City. The article suggests that British rock derived from American music. The article provides information of the Beatles cover on artists such as: Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly. It also includes quotes from Paul McCarthy and John Lennon on how they were inspired by these artists. With the combination of so many artists and genres of music, the Beatles were able to diversify their sound so that they can relate to all of their fans.

Web. 1 Nov. 2010.\n\nThis article gives a great overview of Art Deco by including examples and history. This article explains the characteristics of Art Deco as well as briefly describes the movement leading up to it. There are several Art Deco artists named with a short description o their work. This article is a great place to start Art Deco research because it has a large amount of basic information and is therefore a great jumping off point.\n\n

Weston, Neville. "THE REAL VAN GOGH: the artist and his letters." Craft Arts International 79 (2010): 78-80. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 15 Nov. 2010. In this article it explains the life of Van Gogh. It turns out he had health problems and did not take care of himself. Van Gogh did not eat at times, drank excessively, and smoked. His bipolar mood greatly influenced his paintings. Throughout his life he wrote letter to his brother, which today are translated. The letters are considered to be real literature and inform the reader about his life.

Web. 16 Nov. 2010.\n\nSince the 1970s, the Miami Design Preservation League has been working to preserve the many Art Deco buildings in South Beach. The efforts were successful and South Beach is now a historical district. It was both interesting and informative to read that pieces of Art Deco are now considered historical and are being protected. The article mentions that some buildings have begun to deteriorate with age. Examples of historical pieces of Art Deco are included with many photographs.

Clifford,James. "On Ethnographic Surrealism". 1981. JSTORE Internet Database, Web. 16 Nov. 2010. James Clifford runs down the history of surrealism in thos article. he gives descriptions on the influences of the artistic movement as well as the history that is taking place around it.he discusses where the movement is taking place between the wars. he also talks about some of the most influental artists of the period. Overall i would say that this is a very scholarly article that provides alot of background information that would be beneficial to writing a paper on the topic.

Web. 16 Nov. 2010. Contains descriptions of a couple distiguishable groups of futursts and elaborates on there differences. The article also gives adaquate background information on people like Marinetti as well as for the futurist and fascist movements themselves. The author indicates that there may be some confusion in separation the fascist and futurist movements but the author attemps to correct this issue.

"Vincent Van Gogh." Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition (2010): 1. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 16 Nov. 2010. This article is a nice overview of Van Gogh's life. It talks about how his tragic life lead to very successful pieces of art. His personality and health problems made it hard for him to really be a part of society. After he figured out preaching was not the right profession, he turned to painting. Van Gogh had a strong passion for painting although he was barely recognized in his lifetime for his beautiful art work. His closest friend in life was his brother, Theo. He wrote Theo quite frequently dealing with his aspirations and conflicts. In the end Theo got married and Van Gogh committed suicide.

This encyclopedia source is able to provide much needed information on the background of Van Gogh. It gives great detail on the life of Van Gogh. The source also provides past artistic works of his. When writing this paper on Van Gogh and the postimpressionism era I will need to know about Van Gogh and his life. Also his relation to the artistic movement.

This article is able to pay tribute to painter Vincent Van Gogh's life. It explains his death and how it happened. The article also covers his paintings and how he rose to fame. One of his most famous exhibitions titled `Van Goghs'; Contemplation on Van Gogh's disability; Family and career background, was a great spring board. Overall Van Gogh's life was very interesting and this article provides a lot of information on all of it.

Pine, Julia. ""New Skin, a New Land!": Dalí's American Metamorphosis." ESC: English Studies in Canada 34.1 (2009), 37-58. Pine views Salvador Dali's autobiography, "The Secret Life". She gives us insight into his life, which many were unaware of. "The Secret Life" gave the world information about his personal life, so they could begin to understand him better. In addition, it describes his works during Dali's postsurrealsist, postavant-garde period and how they impacted the Surrealist movement.

Kitwana, Bakari. The Hip Hop Generation: Young Blacks and the Crisis in African American Culture. New York: Basic Civitas, 2002. Print. This book talks about how rap has negatively influenced young black kids. I think that this book is very important because this is a bit of a problem in the black community and I think that it needs to be addressed. Although hip-hop has positive factors, it has a lot of negative factors that deal with not only blacks, but all races. This book discusses a lot of important issues, and I think it provides a lot of good information.

"POSTIMPRESSIONISM." (n.d.): Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia. EBSCO. Web. 19 Nov. 2010. This source is able to provide a historical background of the postimpressionist artistic movement. The encyclopedia is a great place to start when trying to gain more knowledge about anything. The description they give about postimpressionism is both helpful and informative. This artistic style was used by Van Gogh. The movement took place during the last two decades of the 19th century.

Collings, Matthew. "Think About van Gogh In a Different Way." Modern Painters 22.1 (2010): 24-27. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 19 Nov. 2010. This source is able to provide a look at Van Gogh and his artwork. It goes on to talk about The Letters which is a six-volume collection of every known letter to or from Van Gogh. Also provided is a make-up of paintings based on photos of artworks that he did. Another piece of information provided is the way in which Van Gogh's art can be viewed. Certain vantage points of his artwork provided different emotions and images which is why his art is so intriguing.

This article talks about Berton's Manifesto and how he tried to improve and expand the movement. One way he tried to do this was by claiming Pablo Picasso as a Surrealist painter. The writing is very detailed and descriptive about the two artists and their ties with Surrealism. It is a long article but it provides quality information. This is a good article because it addresses the parameters of the Surrealist Movement.

It tells you the origin of where the name impreesionism came from and all about the subjects the artists paints about and the techniques they use. In addition, the site lists "the masters" of the art movement and the numerous paintings they painted. Lastly, it gives a list of a few books about the art movement and of the artists.
