Van Gogh painted his Irises while staying at the insane asylum in Arles. One reason Van Gogh sticks out from other artist is the fact that he paints the world the way he sees it. His creative imagination shines through in his paintings. He painted the Irises during the final years of his life. This article will help me in writing my paper due to the fact that I can compare his Irises to some of his earlier work.

Web. 17 Nov. 2010. Potato Eaters is one of Van Gogh's more famous pieces. This article interprets what the painting means. It was also one of Van Gogh's first major pieces. This painting is of peasant family sitting around a dinner table eating potatoes. Van Gogh relates to the poor very weel, because believe it or not while he was alive he was not financially stable. He uses dark colors and their is one light of a lamp, which is supposed to, "explore the relationship between the cycles of nature and rural life."

This article focuses on his Illnesses and lack of mental stability. His creativity level was off the charts, and in the end effected his mental health. His creativity was partially due to his intake of absinthe. I also learned that in 1882, Vincent entered the hospital due to a gonorrheal infection. His mental problems started to occur when he was in his 30's. I really like this article because it gives an outline of all of Van Gogh's health problems and the time period in which they occurred.

It talks about how his tragic life lead to very successful pieces of art. His personality and health problems made it hard for him to really be a part of society. After he figured out preaching was not the right profession, he turned to painting. Van Gogh had a strong passion for painting although he was barely recognized in his lifetime for his beautiful art work. His closest friend in life was his brother, Theo. He wrote Theo quite frequently dealing with his aspirations and conflicts. In the end Theo got married and Van Gogh committed suicide.

In this article it explains the life of Van Gogh. It turns out he had health problems and did not take care of himself. Van Gogh did not eat at times, drank excessively, and smoked. His bipolar mood greatly influenced his paintings. Throughout his life he wrote letter to his brother, which today are translated. The letters are considered to be real literature and inform the reader about his life.

According to Soth's interpretation of Starry Night, Van Gogh is trying to get the message across that he has lost his faith in the Catholic Church. The painting goes beyond reality and he uses his imagination to create his depiction of nature. The painting represents Van Gogh's modern art style.

On Christmas Eve he sliced his ear lobe. The police found Vincent laying in his bed bleeding and self bandaged. The town knew him as the crazy drunk who spent way to much time at whorehouses. His life really influenced his art work.
