U.S. citizens have found ways to use their resources faster than they can be replaced. This being based on their every day routines, and interactions with food; one being that they waste approximately 4.6 pounds of trash a day. Environmentally speaking this is not headed in a good direction for America.

While the study isn't on food waste, specifically, there's plenty of insight on the topic. "Digging" found that food was the single largest material generated by schools, amounting to 24 percent of the total waste generated. That's about double the percentage in the (regular) municipal solid waste stream!

I thought that this article was very interesting because it relates to the 10 myths as well. The article is about when bigger countries, such as the U.S. and Europe who decided to move to sustainable growing techniques. The one thing wrong wtih sustainable growing is that we have less to export to poorer countries in need of low cost mass produced foods.

Food waste costs you money and we are all guilty of it, but there are ways to make sure all the food you buy ends up on the table.

Ira Sager the journalist of the this article talks about how much money is wasted because of food waste. She goes on to say how many pounds of food is wasted. The number one thing that is thrown away is food scrapes, not plastic or paper. Those food scrapes we could be composting. She stated that wasting food is a cultural habit. We are use to doing it and it is culturally acceptable. Breaking this awful food waste habit then there is going to have to be an adjustment in our society. Also she talks about how many people think the government needs to get involved and do something about food waste.

This article is more in a diagram form. It tells you were all the produce starts and gives you the different steps. At each level it gives information about different food waste or the resources we are wasting in America. This table/article is neat to look at if you're a visual person.

The food waste is starting to affect our environment. With the food being wasted daily, the need for more food is strict and the more access to food, the more people are becoming obese. Food is energy and we need energy to survive.

All the waste that has been going on only means that more energy is lost in the form of food than is stored in all the nation's offshore oil and gas reserves. Food waste isn't just harmful to our environment but we're also buring more energy than we can produce.

This article is how much produce the world waste. Often times produce is left to rot in the farm lands where it is being grown. You ask why? If the certain product isn't the right shape, color, size, or feel right it is left. This is because the consumers won't buy the product if it looks a little funny. If it makes it to the store the grocer does sales, promotions and other things to have consumers buy more. This then results in waste at home because often times consumers won't use all the product. It goes on to talk about how we can change food waste from happening and other issues within the food waste topic.

Kids as young as 13 are trying to make a difference because they realize the damage methane gas can cause. If kids are trying to make a difference, I think we can learn from this and try to fight waste in our own ways too.
