A very practical explanation of finding images that one is free to use via Creative Commons licenses via the image sharing site Flickr. Also included are concrete summaries of each specific license type. The author mistakenly refers to CC-licensed images as "non-copyrighted," but this is not accurate technically. A copyright owner may choose to license her work for reuse/remixing, but in doing so, she does not give up her copyright. Creative Commons exists with copyright not as an alternative to it.

As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.

Load a web page or an image--text page works also--and then select areas of the screen, comment box opens with your name, and insert comments to share with teammates or colleagues. Very easy to use.

This brief article is an early work by Dr. Ian Bogost related to what he would later refer to as "procedural rhetoric." In this piece Dr. Bogost draws parallels between various processes essential to being "literate" at different points in history. With what "processes" do we need to become literate as educators in the 21st century? How can we help others become literate?

This sounds a lot like learning by doing. If students can't experience battle re-enactments, or visit musuems and historical sites, or travel to parks, or act out a story, technology might afford those luxuries. Computers, iPads, even smart phones can provide virtual field trips and experiences. Students can further share these experiences through social networking. As an older generation, I feel it necessary to keep learning how today's youth are communicating so I will be able to connect with them and bridge that gap in their education.

Not a fan of Diamond, but I did like Guns, Germs, and Steel. As it relates to learning, I do agree that there is great benefit in constructing your learning. I imagine a day when we will be able to choose from a vast assortment of resources that will allow us to illustrate specific terms or concepts and from those resources we can build knowledge, sort of like a Lego model.

A superb example of "remixing" for popular culture content. While not, obviously, licensed for remixing (via Creative Commons or alternative), this parody (consistent with fair use of copyrighted materials) still showcases tactics involved in remixing (e.g., excerpting, re-sequencing, adding content elements) in a way that creates a new work from the old.

Good article on the need to develop/ sustain an interest in "how technology works," through technology education targeted at early high school students. The Australian Computer Society, mentioned in the article, "strives for ICT to be recognised as a driver of innovation in our society . . . ." Helping keep the digital world civil . . . This blog post lays it all out: the rationale for teaching digital citizenship; how to start teaching it in elementary grades, and some follow up ideas for middle and high school. It's never too late to start working with students on digital citizenship, though! :-)

This is a great resource for creating centers and improving reading instruction. Although this is not an interactive website, it is very user friendly. The website can be searched by grade level or by reading component. You can print out the resources, laminate them and save yourself a lot of time for making center activities.

Teachers can create a free account and set it to private if they wish. This is a great resource for not only presentations but creating digital storytelling

Teachers this is great what to bring fun and life to your PowerPoints its a new why to do them, its a lot of work at first but its pretty cool.

Thanks Tonga! I plan to use Prezi for the first time this weekend for one of my other courses. I like how a lot of resources out there are allowing users to save on their sites so that we don't have to carry our flashdrives around all the time and so others can collaborate with us! (Just realized this was a post from last semester...oops!)
