Discover valuable professional development resources addressing issues such as equity, ELL, technology planning, and at-risk or special-needs students.

This is the website I use for my class blog.  It is quick for you and your students to register, it is safe for students to use and the format is simple, yet effective.  I have already witnessed some amazing learning and sharing on this site.

A very useful tool for middle school and high school teachers, and maybe even later elementary grades.  Not very useful to me as a first grade teacher, but when students are asked to do research papers, and they start citing Wikipedia as a reliable source, teachers should utilize this.  :)

For any middle/high school teachers who plan on having their students write research papers - to avoid Wikipedia and other unreliable sources students may find via simple Google searches. :)

I have used this website in Kindergarten and am excited to see that there are plenty of resources I can use for second grade. The NCTE is composed off dedicated teachers who share their resources, strategies, and best practices with others. You can enjoy the benefits of being a NCTE member by enrolling in the membership. Many of the resources are free and can be used in the classroom. There are lesson plans and student interactives to use for any subject on a computer or smart board. The great thing about this website is that parents and children can access it at home for after school resources. There is community involvement and professional developments that one can attend.

A very practical explanation of finding images that one is free to use via Creative Commons licenses via the image sharing site Flickr. Also included are concrete summaries of each specific license type. The author mistakenly refers to CC-licensed images as "non-copyrighted," but this is not accurate technically. A copyright owner may choose to license her work for reuse/remixing, but in doing so, she does not give up her copyright. Creative Commons exists with copyright not as an alternative to it.

Here in The Math Machine you will find links to more than 50 online games that will help you teach and reinforce important math skills. Search the list below for games you might use with your whole class in your schools computer lab, or you might schedule students to use these games on computers in your classroom computer center. These games make great reward time activities too.

Edublog Awards Winners 2011. Lists winner and several runners up for various student, teacher, class, library, ed tech, and administrator blogs. Also recognizes other categories such as best mobile app, free web tool, most influential blog post, educational wiki, open PD/webinar series, and use of a social network. I would recommend using this page for resources and ideas for creating your own educational blog.

I have used this in the classroom before and think that it has some great information on historical events put in terms younger children will understand.

I know other people have posted Ben's Guide, but here's the K-2 section of the web site, which includes games and activities, as well as additional links and resources for the students. I particularly like the subtopic about "My Neighborhood," as it is relevant to what I will be teaching my students in my own classroom and I love supplemental material!

Great resource for teachers, parents, and students. It's a search database that categorizes math topic by grade level and it explains concepts in plain step by step terms. This type of website would be awesome for parents that are not math savvy to use to brush up on their math skills or to relearn math concepts while trying to help their children.Great for teachers to refer to as a secondary way to explain a concept beyond their knowledge and the textbook being used.

this website was found through the US. Department of Education. It gives parent helpful practical examples of how they can use everyday task such as shopping at the grocery store to get kids motivated and practicing their math skills. These type of hands on practical approaches are always great to do with young kids because it's a way to capitalize on their free time and to have them practice what they are learning in school without feeling like they are in a classroom.
