A new educational software program being implemented this year in our schools' extended day program is Kids College. This program is through a company named Learning Through Sports. LTD helps students with literacy, math and science. It is an adaptive program that works at each students level. Teachers do not always have the time to differentiate instruction. This program adapts to the students level and works on the gaps in their knowledge. The way the program works is that it motivates the students using their competitive nature. Student chose a team and the sport they want to play. The level they are working on is independent of their contribution to the success of the team. The team succeeds as long as the student succeeds. After answering questions they move through the levels by participating in the sport of their choice. The sports they students can play are: basketball, snowboard, golf, foosball, hockey, rugby or baseball. The video games have wonderful graphics which are attractive to the players. The program is aligned with the state standards and the common core standards. It provides reports of students success for teachers, students and parents.

This article highlights several free online resources that can be used to enhance project-based learning for students. Resources such as Google Docs and Dropbox may be widely known already in this class, but others include LiveMinutes, ShowMe, and GimmeBar. In The National Geographic Kids Blog, a group of kids selected by the National Geographic staff share their thoughts and experiences. This is a great blog for kids to follow and be able to read about things that interest them and what other kids think. Teachers can use this as a resource to introduce kids to safe and educational places on the internet that are interesting to them as well. I found this in the "Online Safety" section of Kids.gov, accessed via the publisher companion site of our textbook.

This article is by Dr. Hoffman, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the ALIMA program at UCF. It provides guidelines for creating digital learning materials for those with accessibility issues, such as learning disabilities, or vision and motor impairments. The fact that I had no idea that's what the article was about (I was thinking about general accessibility for everyone) is an indication that this is a topic that deserves more attention, awareness, and application in practice. The article will be freely available as a PDF from this webpage when on campus or logged into the UCF proxy server.

The Scholastic website @ http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/home.jsp is a wonderful website designed for students, parents, and teachers. This website contains reading lesson plans created for student's prekindergarten through twelfth grade. This website a contains numerous resources including reading pintables that could be used in a classroom. I would highly recommend this website for students, parents and teachers.

Here is a great video on sorting data in Excel. This was the hardest part of this weeks assignment, to me, and I figured I would share this video because it helped me out!!!

The Broward County School District has a designated website for parents call PARENT INVOLVEMENT. This is great website for parents within the Broward County school district to use as a quick condense reference guide to get and stay info with what's going on in this school district. This website also provides an abundance of valuable resources ranging from ways for parent to get involve in their child's schooling, school policies, academic info, and supportive services to things as Teen Parent Program, health education, and preventive programs from substance abuse, etc.

This website takes making PowerPoint presentations to a whole new level. Presentations can be created online and accessed anywhere there is a connection to the internet. Teachers can create a free account and set it to private if they wish. This is a great resource for not only presentations but creating digital storytelling

Teachers this is great what to bring fun and life to your PowerPoints its a new why to do them, its a lot of work at first but its pretty cool.

Thanks Tonga! I plan to use Prezi for the first time this weekend for one of my other courses. I like how a lot of resources out there are allowing users to save on their sites so that we don't have to carry our flashdrives around all the time and so others can collaborate with us! (Just realized this was a post from last semester...oops!)

Mr. Black's World History Page contains an entire year of World History class content within one site. This site contains information, lesson plans, hands on activities, and more. A teacher could use this site to teach an entire year of World History without going anywhere else for another resource. If you do use the site just give Mr. Black credit he obviously dedicated a serious amount of time creating this site.

I love this site because the student can through this Site Search any branch of the Museum of Smithsonian. Also this site the student can identify and look at the audience and other cultures to recognize it at first hand. The teacher can use this site to explain other cultures and civilizations to be presented to students in an interesting way to increase the knowledge of students.
