'Pod-ready: Podcasting for the developing world' Lead: 'Podcasts are taking off as a way that anyone, anywhere, can get their voice heard on the Internet. With access to information and communication technology (ICTs) in developing countries growing day by day, and recognition from decision makers that ICTs are a key component in development, podcasting could play a role in the new communication order.' The article cites examples of NGO's using podcasts to provide content for telecenters and to suggest that the approach is useful even in areas that don't have electricity, never mind the Internet.

SocialLearn: Bridging the Gap Between Web 2.0 and Higher Education at e-Literate - 0 views

  •
Higher education faces a challenge. It may not now it yet, but it does. And the challenge is this - when learners have been accustomed to very facilitative, usable, personalisable and adaptive tools both for learning and socialising, why will they accept standardised, unintuitive, clumsy and out of date tools in formal education they are paying for? It won't be a dramatic revolution (students accept lower physical accommodation standards when they leave home for university after all), but instead there will be a quiet migration. The monolithic LMSs will be deserted, digital tumbleweed blowing down their forums. Students will abandon these in favour of their tools, the back channel will grow and it will be constituted from content and communication technologies that don't require a training course to understand and that come with a ready made community. This may seem like just a technological issue, but it runs deeper than this.

ARML Specification - 2 views

  •
"ARML is an initiative to standardize the way points of interest are described. Similar to web browsers this would enable content providers to create their data once and it can be viewed across all browser that support the standard. As KML is already a very popular format (e.g. Google Earth) we decided to base the ARML specification on KML and extend it with AR specific structure. Also many companies and organizations have already their data in KML available and there are many KML converters available to transform existing data. Additionally Google Earth is an easy to use interface to create KML data even by non-technical people. "

"Online publishing, on the other hand enables you to control the length and content of your book. You have the final say, its yours. You can distribute it as you please. You won't make any money out of it, but you are making your contribution so that is enough for your own satisfaction, right? Your ideas and arguments are there for all to see."

Multigenre Writing - 6 views

  •
"A multigenre paper arises from research, experience, and imagination. It is not an uninterrupted, expository monolog nor a seamless narrative nor a collection of poems. A multigenre paper is composed of many genres and subgenres, each piece self-contained, making a point of its own, yet connected by theme or topic and sometimes by language, images, and content. In addition to many genres, a multigenre paper may also contain many voices, not just the author's. The trick is to make such a paper hang together." ~~ (Romano, Blending Genre, Altering Style i-xi)

ReelSurfer | Make your video archive searchable, clippable and interactive - 0 views

  •
This is a potentially huge boost to any e-learning program that relies heavily on video lecture content.  We know that just watching a lecture is a dull chore (unless the lecturer is a master broadcaster).  We also know that shorter, on point clips from a lecture would be highly effective when presented in the context of meaningful response activities.  This is where reelsurfer might fit.  They promise to make your video library searchable and provide the tech to clip the elements you want to promote for study or for marketing.  Lots of built in links to social media make this easy.  30- Day free trial.  Could be a way to leverage a large archive of lecture tapes into something suitable for finely designed online learning.
