A nice article in Forbes magazine. The move away from "scalable factory" modes of teaching is gaining steam in business. Educators wake up. Propose solutions or solutions will be given to you by those that may not understand education.
Nice description of the difference between a scientific law and a scientific theory. Especially enlightening discussion of why theories /can't/ become laws.
While microblogging has helped free students from jails, as well as raised money for charity, it has also given a lot of us a good reason to procrastinate. This isn't Twitter's fault. We'll always find nice and shiny things to do instead of work, but there's a point where we have to say - enough is enough. Let's get productive while staying an active microblogger in five simple steps:
Create a "pretty" stream of tweets from a hashtag, user, or twitter search. A few animation selections give it some variety, but keep things simple. Might be a nice tool for displaying a visually appealing self-updating stream of tweets for an event.
I bookmarked this, in spite of the column title, because I know that many of us from time to time will refer to the many things you can do with the iPhone in your pocket. Carrying around that kind of power in your pocket SHOULD change SOMETHING about how we view the role of education today, don't we agree? Add to this list the ability to control Radio Controlled cars and helocopters, play music, and so MANY more of OUR favorite apps and... the technology is just too important to ignore. Or worse - to ban!
This is just a nice collection of apps and descriptions in ten categories, from arts, to science, to math, to litereature, and more. Yes, it omits as many categories (or more) than it includes, but it's a nice place to start.
This site has been around for years, but it's very nice. A great way to take a survey and then be able to compare your results with the results of the whole. Compare by question, as well.
