I have kicked off the first "Plurknovela" a collective digital story told by Plurkers around the world. Wanna join in the fun? Great for language students creating microblogged fiction on the fly!
Plurk is a great digital storytelling tool for students developing higher order thinking skills, creativity, collaboration, etc. Easy, fast, and fun. Perfect for second and foreign language students and developing writing and reading skills.
Plurk novellas are emerging -- this is very cool. This could be used in writing. You can see how threaded microblogging is DIFFERENT from twitter. I think there is room for both.
An example of Flowgram from sirexkat who discusses Adventures in Microblogging
Flowgram is building a new multimedia-empowered way to communicate. The Flowgram product has captured the imagination of a prestigious group of individuals with exceptional track records. Flowgram investors include Reid Hoffman (Paypal, LinkedIn), Josh Kopelman (Firstround Capital, Half.com), the founders of Flickr, Bud Colligan (founding CEO of Macromedia), Rajeev Motwani (Stanford) and members of the founding team of WebEx and Tibco Software.
I've been spending some time on the various microblogging places and really don't have time to go to all of them, so now, I've used pingfm to update them all. (There is a place to go to get the most recent invite beta code, that will be my next link.) This great tutorial got me started on pingfm so that it will update all of the services I use. Very nice tutorial.
Since 2006, blogging has dropped among teens and young adults while simultaneously rising among older adults. As the tools and technology embedded in social networking sites change, and use of the sites continues to grow, youth may be exchanging 'macro‐blogging' for microblogging with status updates.
While microblogging has helped free students from jails, as well as raised money for charity, it has also given a lot of us a good reason to procrastinate. This isn't Twitter's fault. We'll always find nice and shiny things to do instead of work, but there's a point where we have to say - enough is enough. Let's get productive while staying an active microblogger in five simple steps:
Twitter has caught fire across many professional fields as well as personally, but it seems to be in the beginning stages in the realm of higher education. The creative ways Twitter users have incorporated microblogging has become inspirational.
Suzie Boss writes a comprehensive overview of the growing use of twitter in education. I find it so interesting that many of the complaints about twitter are also the initial complaints I heard about blogging. This is a very nice overview of twitter for those who are wondering "what is the fuss?"
Edmodo is best described as Twitter for students and teachers. In reality though, it's basically a private micro-blogging service for schools with built-in security features that give teachers privacy controls over their virtual classrooms.
Cool application for twitter that makes it easier to use. I really like it! It is another adobe air application which means you can use if offline too!
