This is, I think, another perfect example of what Clay Shirky would point to in his book, "Here Comes Everybody." Folks just decided to 'get together' to build a place where people could share their images of that day. It then does something that no newspaper or magazine could afford to do - it paints a vivid picture of the day through the lenses of MANY people, thus providing so many different views and perspectives of the HIstoric day.

Another search engine that will go through Flickr for creative commons images. You can search by tags (not description). I like the way it specifically lists the creative commons license type the person has given the image.

This is a very honest, open discussion between educators about why diigo or delicious -- I think the fact we can have this conversation within diigo at all says a lot for the usefulness of the tool. Diigo is an emerging tool for social bookmarking and collective intelligence.

The MODIS Rapid Response System was developed to provide daily satellite images of the Earth's landmasses in near real time.

As works in these collections become digitized, the museums and libraries will make those images that are in the public domain freely accessible. In a departure from established convention, no license will be required for the transmission of the images and no limitations will be imposed on their use.

Searches other search engines for pictures (Flickr, Photobucket, Google, Yahoo etc). Windows-only but the Mac version is under development. Some images have copyright info on them, but not all. Can see a lot of different images at once.

"Socrative's new image option could be great for asking mathematics questions that are diagram based. The image option could also be great for world languages teachers to post a picture of an object that students have to identify in the language that they're learning. And the new automatic grading option could save you a ton of time that you can then invest in something else. "

Teacher Karie Huttner shares how her third grade classroom is using FaceJack and Discovery images along with demonstrations and videos. I think that using image data banks is a great idea because licensing and copyright is not an issue in this case. FaceJack is an app. Cool work here and great sharing including how they cite sources. Elementary teachers will enjoy her blog.
