"We're experiencing the biggest media petri dish in four centuries," observes Paul Saffo, a visiting scholar at Stanford University who specializes in technology's effect on society.

The site's stated aim is to provide an encyclopedia for "people with different needs, such as students, children, adults with learning difficulties and people who are trying to learn English". As of August 25, 2010, the site contains over 64,000 content pages, and has more than 141,000 registered users."

ADW is a large searchable encyclopedia of the natural history of animals. Every day, thousands of classroom students and informal visitors use it to answer animal questions. Other sites specialize in local, endangered, or particular kinds of animals. We aim to be as comprehensive as possible.

Good conversation starter for those new to these ideas In recent years, IDEO has spent a lot of time and effort thinking about education. The firm's work with Ormondale Elementary School, in Portola Valley, California, helped pioneer a special "investigative-learning" curriculum that inspires students to be seekers of knowledge. We spoke to Sandy Speicher, who heads the Design for Learning efforts at IDEO. Her insights provide powerful lessons for architects and designers creating the schools of tomorrow:

A video about the students in Texas and their struggle to raise money to come to the Flat Classroom conference - this is a great piece and captures so much of the essence of what makes this project so special - it is so much bigger than any of us and a HUGE undertaking for any teacher - but is so worth it. I find it so interesting that so many schools don't have "room" in their curriculum for these experiences.

Great site with many resources for people who are blind.

This website has a wide variety of information for the blind community. You'll notice that this site doesn't have a lot of graphics -- that is because it is very accessible and usable for those using voice-enabled web browsing. This is a great resource for educators and those working with special needs.

The mission of Staples Foundation for Learning is to provide funding to programs that support or provide job skills and/or education for all people, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged youth.

It turns out that teachers and low ranking civil servants (ie.key electoral workers numbering >1700) are a special target of post election violence in Zimbabwe -- Roman Catholic Justice and Peace Commission is also calling for international coordination of runoff election.

Does anyone know how best we can all organise our colleagues to write to UN and President Mugabe whom we could encourage between them to put this awful matter right...?!
