Thanks for sharing Ayako! I've only had a quick look at this resource, but it looks like it could be very helpful - particularly some of the lesson ideas which work in with the TPACK model and clearly highlight how the outcomes of the Australian Curriculum are being met.

Numeracy Literature Review for Evidence Based Practices Framework - 1 views

  •
"Numeracy is the capacity, confidence and disposition to use mathematics to meet the demands of learning, school, home, work, community and civic life. This perspective on numeracy emphasises the key role of applications and utility in learning the discipline of mathematics, and illustrates the way that mathematics contributes to the study of other disciplines" (ACARA, formerly the National Curriculum Board, 2009, p.5). This review asserts an understanding of numeracy as mathematics applied to real world situations as illustrated in "Banking on Numeracy: Episode 2".

Educational Leadership:Technology-Rich Learning:Our Brains Extended - 0 views

You think of technology as a tool," one high school student told me. "We think of it as a foundation; it underlies everything we do." As this comment shows, like it or not, technology has become foundational to both education and life. Educators should think of technology in the same way they've long viewed reading-as a key to thinking about and knowing about the world.

Prensky argues for a change in the way educators think about technology - as an extension to our brains.

Curriculum Online - What is Numeracy? - 0 views

  •
The Meaning of Numeracy The complex world of the twenty-first century places demands on its citizens that require them to engage competently with an ever-increasing range of activities that have their basis in the world of mathematics. As a result, there is a rapidly growing emphasis on the importance of creating numerate school leavers. The connection between numeracy and mathematics and the tendency to use the words interchangeably can lead to confusion as they are not synonyms of each other. However, to be numerate requires mathematical skills. The term 'mathematical literacy' is becoming more widely used both in Australia and overseas and is defined by the OECD (2004) as:

Johnny Rabbit orders lunch from the school canteen and we follow how much change he gets
  •
This is an numeracy based educational video on money. To appeal to an early primary years' age group we set the video in the school canteen using a toy bunny (Johnny Rabbit) in place of a child, which allows children to relate better to the character while exploring the concepts of money and numeracy (The Australian Curriculum Assessment And Reporting Authority) . (ACMNA017, ACMNA034, ACMNA059). This video could be used as an initial exploration into money, with the ability of delving into more in-depth questions as the students become proficient with the concepts.
