In this upcoming series, I will highlight apps useful for developing higher order thinking skills in grades K-5 classrooms. Each list will highlight a few apps that connect to the various stages on Bloom's continuum of learning. Given the size and current exponential growth of the app market, I will also assist educators in setting criteria necessary to identify apps that maintain the integrity of teaching for thinking.

This numeracy video was created for educational purposes and designed for students teachers and parents to use as a resource when teaching fractions in a junior primary setting. Our video aims to communicate the importance of numeracy as a life skill as it shows how numeracy can be used beyond the classroom. For example, real life situations such as baking a chocolate cake :)

This video could be used as part of numeracy learning experiences, either as a base to a numeracy lesson, lesson introduction, or lesson idea. It could also encorporate cross curricula links to subjects such as ICT and Home Economics!

Educators everywhere are asking how can we use the new mobile devices like iPad and iPod touch in the classroom? What's good? What's bad? Why? So, we thought we'd put a site together to share what we use for teaching and learning - not just a list of apps that someone thinks might be cool.

Quality education means starting with foundation skills such as literacy and numeracy, being taught by high-quality teachers, and supporting disadvantaged students. These three areas are being addressed through the three Smarter Schools National Partnerships.
