An avatar is a graphical representation of one's self, personality or alter-ego while engaging in online communication.  Avatars can range from simple, static 2D graphics to complex, animated 3D forms controlled by the user. First of a great series on avatars. Clear, concise.

This post details possible causes of low performance for those accessing virtual worlds with low end computers. This is just one of many design considerations when designing a virtual environment for a specific learning audience. ACS (American Chemical Society) The place for Chemists and Scientists! - 8 views

I really liked this location. I found it really easy to navigate. I liked the museum. I felt like I was in an actual chemistry museum with floating molecules and explanations.

SL Zoo - 0 views

This was a fun place to visit. My little kids enjoyed walking around this scenic SL Zoo. I liked the graphics and the set up. However, I would have liked to be able to interact with the animals. Also, if there were sound effects, they were not available at the time I was in this virtual site. It would have been a nice touch if the creator added informational cards about the different animals that were displayed. I'm going to search around a bit to see if there are other virtual zoos.

This sounds like a great idea for a vitual field trip to a zoo. This might be the only way for teachers to "get out the classoom" because of buget cuts. Too bad there are no sound effects or information cards.
