Facebook | Videos from Educators using Facebook: Facebook for Educators [HQ] - 0 views

Facebook video:  Facebook for educators.  Great 8 minute video introducing FB to educators and showing important tips and best practices.  Easy view. Available from within FB.

This is a great video! Although facebook is blocked at our schools, among other amazing web resources, students can still access material from home. I'm thinking that if a teacher creates enough buzz about a class facebook, students will get involved with it at home. Teachers can even give participation points for students who post. This brings up a question of equity. .. What about students who don't have computers or internet access at home? My answer to that is for students to network with family and friends, and find someone who will let them use the internet. Many public libraries have internet access. Of course this is coming from a high school teacher point of view. Love the video! But I still need to get familiar with all of the settings and privacy controls on there before I use it in class. :)

I'm not sure if CLRN is living up to its potential, but this website has links to many electronic resources, electronic textbooks, media reviews, and other information for educators. It is worth checking out!

Kelly, this looks very interesting. There are a few resources in the Visual and Performing Arts section that I think I could use. I'm still not clear on whether this is a free or pay-as-you go resource but I am going to sign up for their "trial account".

This is really helpful for me. I use photos in my classes all the time. I particularly like the Picishare site. The search results are interesting; not always what I'd expect, but a great adventure.

A discussion of appropriate use AND NON USE of technology in the art and craft of teaching in higher education. Good discussion starter for instructional design and tech integration. Examples of when technology (ie. tools, gadgets and trends) did not result in "better" learning.  A reminder that we DESIGN instruction intentionally - not according to the latest fad.

Great site, Christine. I found a video by Alan November, one of the true gurus and prophets regarding technology. Every Cometeer should watch his video about the emerging classroom. I also found a link here to a great site with documentary videos about 21st Century Learning -- http://newlearninginstitute.org/21stcenturyeducation/ There are some fascinating videos here about what is going on at schools around the country.

Google Invents an App Inventor - 1 views

  •
According to Google, this resource is so easy to use that kids can create their own Apps, though limited to Google's Android OS. Google borrowed some code from a teacher education program at MIT as their building blocks. They hope young people (and teachers) will be inspired to become serious App creators. Critics say it will only add to the hundreds of low-quality, useless Apps that are already out there. What do you think?
