Facebook video:  Facebook for educators.  Great 8 minute video introducing FB to educators and showing important tips and best practices.  Easy view. Available from within FB.

This is a great video! Although facebook is blocked at our schools, among other amazing web resources, students can still access material from home. I'm thinking that if a teacher creates enough buzz about a class facebook, students will get involved with it at home. Teachers can even give participation points for students who post. This brings up a question of equity. .. What about students who don't have computers or internet access at home? My answer to that is for students to network with family and friends, and find someone who will let them use the internet. Many public libraries have internet access. Of course this is coming from a high school teacher point of view. Love the video! But I still need to get familiar with all of the settings and privacy controls on there before I use it in class. :)

This site builds on the PLN that Cathy has helped all of us to start developing. It has a wealth of videos and resources that explore the application of social media in education. It is a place where educators can contribute and learn about effective uses of SM in education.

Great site, Christine. I found a video by Alan November, one of the true gurus and prophets regarding technology. Every Cometeer should watch his video about the emerging classroom. I also found a link here to a great site with documentary videos about 21st Century Learning -- http://newlearninginstitute.org/21stcenturyeducation/ There are some fascinating videos here about what is going on at schools around the country.

Fascinating example of using whiteboard graphics to animate or illustrate main points of a short lecture.  How is this strategy MORE effective than other graphic strategies? 

Cathy, this video is fascinating both for its content and its technique. Is this instructor such a great artist, or does he collaborate with an artist, sound editor, etc. to produce these videos? The topic reminded me of conversations I've had with friends who live in Spain. They tell me Americans are always too busy and that in Spain if you are late for an appointment no one criticizes you. They assume you had an important visit with someone along the way.

Regarding content: Yes, interesting thoughts on the implications of culture! As an instructional designer, I begin to consider how one might design instruction for various cultural groups (In fact, that is covered in the non-COMET version of 572.) Regarding graphics: I don't know if the narrator and artist are one person. For more on the concept of instructive doodles, look for the book "The Back of the Napkin". The premise is that anyone can develop enough skill to illustrate ideas!

If you haven't seen this YouTube video, you must. It is a collection of AT&T television ads from 1993 predicting the impact of future technologies on our lives. It is amazingly insightful with one exception: phone booths! Don't forget, the world wide web was in its infancy in 1993 with a minute number of sites that the general public knew little or nothing about. Anyone recognize the narrator's voice?

Rachel S. Smith of New Media Consortium demonstrates how she uses an iPad to visually record presentations (think doodling!) She demonstrates narrated QT video using Brushes and iMovie. GREAT ideas for presentation development! For EDTEC572 students: I KNOW the semester is over.. But some of you will think this is really nifty :)

About iPad and mobile learning

I know we have been using the phrase "web 2.0" during the EDTEC program, but I was still having difficulty understanding the full scope of the term. This video is short and simple, explaining both the regular and technical aspects of "web 2.0."

Very good information on how to have a teacher-student relationship using any type of social networking tool.
