I recall the drill and skill activities of the first computers in my classroom. They were similar to the flashcards previously used with the added advantage of bouncy smiley faces entertaining the students' correct response. The sites shared above go far beyond such response strengthening multimedia. The Chinese proverb goes, "Give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime." A proverb for multimedia learning might say tell me information I learn for a day, show me information I learn for a week, teach me to find and use information I learn for a lifetime. This course will model this metaphor for the teachers who will in turn model it for their students as they construct their own knowledge.

This website allows you to create custom graphic organizers online, and was created by the same company that makes the popular Inspiration graphic organizer software. It is user friendly, and is better than many programs because it allows you to share your work via links, or invite members to edit your work.

The more I use this website, the more I am impressed with what I can do. It's ability to insert hyperlinks to the bubbles in the organizers encouraged me to use it in the pre-training module of my workshop. In the general case, it can be used in all the modules. The ability to script an outline and have the software generate the organizer is convenient and time-saving.

The lesson plan will help the student use content information to extract specific concepts to create a snapshot of how information is connected to a specific idea. This activity can be done independently and shared with classmates for input. In addition, the students will rely on their cognitive ability to develop the mind map.

Webspiration allows for generative learning becasue the participants would be actively involved with the creation. I like this site becasue it is free. Vocabulary A to Z- Custom Vocabulary Builder http://www.vocabularya-z.com/ I believe that Vocabulary A to Z can be used for pre-training because before I ever start anything new I need my students to be aware of and know the definitions for words that will be introduced and by doing vocabulary before I start the new information front loads my students to be prepared for the information to come. Vocabulary A to Z is a site that offers a free trial for 30 days and then requires a low annual payment of $19.95. I have found this twenty dollars a year to be indispensable when I consider the types of products that I am able to create with it. The wonderful thing about Vocabulary A to Z is that it offers so many different types of resources for all different subjects, grade levels and disciplines, but the feature that I love the most is the custom vocabulary builder they provide. I can enter my list of vocabulary words for any given novel, text book chapter, poem, anything and this custom builder helps me to organize and produce high quality and visually pleasing handouts and information sheets for my students.

Learners can benefit from the variety of features offered such as retaining transitions and special effects to capture attention and the use of video and narration adheres to dual coding principles. By combining those features, complex material can be presented in a manner that assists learners generative cognitive load. I found this tool to be better than others given its simplicity and the fact that it retains transitions and animations. The overall quality of the output is quite good also and the use of the tool is fairly straight forward.

This site also allows you to create mind maps. I like this site because it easily allows you to move ideas around by a simple click. It also allows you to easily add links to the mind map as well as images and attachments. Using this site makes it easy to share mind maps with others and collaborate.

I've never used mindmeister, but I love the addition of the larger graphics. Larger graphics offers variety and improves users ability to visually differentiate items. Graphic organizers offer a unique way to introduce topics without overwhelming learners. Interesting graphics and text create visual interest for prelearning. I've only used Freemind for mindmap projects with school, and their graphics are small in relation.

Mind Meister is an excellent cloud based tool that creates collaborative mind maps. This tool is excellent for team use because multiple people can create and edit the tool simultaneously. The team can also create project timelines with deadlines sent to their favorite calendaring tools.
