Az 1960-as évektől a nukleáris fegyverkezés veszélyei egyre nyilvánvalóbbá válnak és egyfajta tudományos együttműködés van kibontakozóban: ezért 1960-ban a Doomsday Clock mutatóit 5 perccel visszaállítják. Az 1963-ban az USA, az Egyesült Királyság és a Szovjetunió által megkötött Partial Test Ban Treaty pedig újabb mérföldkőnek bizonyul: a preambulumban olvasható szöveg valóban az enyhülés politikáját sugallja, s így az óra mutatója ismét 5 perccel távolabb kerül az ítéletidőtől: 1963-ban 11 óra 48 percnél áll. Ugyanakkor meglepő, hogy az 1962-es kubai rakétaválság mit sem mozdított a Doomsday Clock mutatóján - elvégre sokan jegyzik ezt a dátumot úgy, mint a "majdnem 3. világháború" potenciális előestéjét.
