COVID-19 Impact: Healthcare workers Burnout - 4 views

  •
While the number of COVID 19 case continues to rise, Healthcare workers are succumbing to overwhelming pressure on their shoulders. Many hospitals, clinics, and labs are short-staffed with restricted resources at hand to properly treat patients who have the virus. Often times, this leads to non COVID 19 related issues to be pushed aside due to the conditions and priorities these facilities have enforced. They are experiencing stress, frustration, depression, loneliness, and many other concerns that could impact their performance on the front lines.

I am so grateful for our healthcare workers. Times are tough right now. Health cares workers are on the frontline of this pandemic.
  •
This is an interesting article, It would be good to have a comparison with previous data from healthcare workers reviewing their stress levels before the pandemic to the data from the article and see what the difference is in their quality of life and their opinion of the healthcare system.
  •
I'm so blessed for these health care workers, My mom is a nurse and she's even traveling to help with covid. I always feel so bad watching my mom so exhausted from wearing 2 masks and trying to keep my dad who is high risk safe.
  •
Beyond thankful for the heath care workers!!
  •
Im so grateful for these healthcare worker, I could not begin to imagine the stress they had to go though this past year.
  •
It's amazing the obstacles these health care workers had to face because of the pandemic.

Rx Companies Raise Prices on COVID-19 Drugs - 3 views

  •
Big pharma companies have taken advantage of everyday Americans in need of their daily support during the chaotic times we live in. Many of the drugs used each day to help patients fighting Covid-19 have drastically gone up in price since the first case appeared in america. With these prices changes many Americans may not be able to get the proper help needed to get better, and as such may extend the time needed for us to fight off the virus as a whole.

I personally did not know that this was happening right now, but it unfortunately makes sense because it is in such high demands. I do not think that they should be doing that & its awful that if someone can't pay for these drugs, they have a potential of losing their life, which should not be a problem.
  •
Of course big pharma would do this. By raising prices of these drugs, pharmaceutical companies are effectively making it more difficult for people with other healthcare conditions to afford these drugs. As an example, with the price of Ativan increasing, this may result in people who suffer from panic disorder to have difficulty affording a medication that they have a need for.
  •
As sad as this is, it's truly not surprising. Our society is so based on how much money someone does or doesn't have and companies will take advantage of it. Especially with the pandemic and the uncertainty of what helps, this is sickening.
  •
Wow, that is definitely not good
  •
This is extremely sad to hear especially because it seem like they are taking advantage of the pandemic but I also agree that it could because it is in high demand with our current situation.
  •
This is extremely sad to hear. On one hand it seems like companies are taking advantage with the pandemic but on the other hand because I also agree that with our current situation it could be these products are in very high demand.
  •
It is crazy to think that companies would prioritize profits over the help of the people. I understand the demand; however, it shouldn't be the only reason for the increase in price.
  •
When I read this article I thought to myself wow this is insane but to actually think about it, why? why is it so important to profit from something everyone in this world needs

COVID-19 Impact on Arizona Students Education and Economically - 4 views

  •
Amidst the global pandemic, Arizona states students are failing statewide tests in both English and Math this spring with alarming numbers. Education officials had previously advised "extreme caution" in regards to making conclusions based on the number of cases. Disruptions to in-person learning during the pandemic due to the dramatic impact on student learning suggest "inferences may be invalid", according to the department. This years tests also painted a demographic split as White and Asian students passed these exams at twice as POC students. COVID-19 pandemic has had a disparate impact on communities of color, both economically and in loss of life.
  •
That's crazy to hear Covid has had such a negative impact on students performance in school, it's really disheartening. It is a rough transition going from learning in school, then trying to teach yourself through online school in quarantine, it's definitely not for everyone.

COVID-19 to Add as Many as 150 Million Extremely Poor by 2021 - 1 views

  •
Extreme poverty was at the highest in the year 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic millions of people lost their jobs and other things which led them to be poor.
  •
The numbers here are staggering. It's heartbreaking how many people are suffering because of the pandemic.
  •
It's crazy to see the amount of people who have been affected by this deadly virus and the situation it has caused. It should provoke the leaders of each nation to act and control the virus.

Considerations for COVID 19 vaccine mandate - 3 views

  •
This article provides key facts about the COVID 19 Vaccine among healthcare workers. It allows the reader to get a good understanding of Federal and State regulations, advantages and disadvantages of a mandate, as well as alternatives that can be taken.
  •
When I first read this article, I was worried about finding a very biased political perspective. On the contrary, this article was very neutral and explained the advantages and disadvantages of a vaccine mandate for Health Care Workers. The article explained how if countries allowed the mandate, then patients and visitors will be much safer. The mandate, though, can be immoral and hinder personal autonomy.
  •
This article is very informative and enlightening. I like that is explained the advantages and disadvantages on mandates without any bias. I definitely learned some new things and finished reading it without any questions unanswered.

Justice Department Takes Action Against COVID-19 Fraud | OPA | Department of Justice - 0 views

  •
The Department of Justice has announced an update regarding fraudulent unemployment schemes across the nation using COVID 19 as a primary reason. Many financial aid programs for unemployment have been the targets of this issue with scammers milking the benefits that are provided from them. Action has been executed to ensure the protection of these programs and will hold accountable defendants who have been caught being involved of these schemes. The more unemployment fraud makes its way across the nation, even globally, it makes it difficult to provide assistance to people or businesses who are truly in need of the help.

Immigration and Covid Vaccines - 3 views

  •
This article focuses on the fear between immigrants and receiving covid vaccines. It has been stated by the DHA that immigration officials will not be arresting any immigrant who wishes to receive a vaccine. They believe everyone should receive one regardless of legal status in order to help fight the pandemic.
  •
This article provides information on how the pandemic has effected us, humans / people, as a whole. It states that no immigrant will be detained or arrested when getting vaccinated and / or needing emergency assistance. It shows how people and government agencies are working together to fight the pandemic.
  •
This article is very heart-warming, as it describes how the authorities will not arrest illegal immigrants at vaccine drives. The authors do raise the question about what happens to illegal immigrants after receiving the vaccine. The U.S. has a history of mishandling Immigration. COVID only complicates the situation.

The Census Bureau did a Household pulse survey to see how people were doing financially in their households, and it found that LGBTQ+ people were struggling more than LGBTQ+ people were. COVID-19 and student performance - 1 views

The pandemic is affecting school children. There are not doing that well in school because they have been on lockdown for to long. There forgetting how to be social.
  •
The pandemic has effected so many lives, especially students. This is one of the most principle periods in their lives and where development can be most important. Throwing the stress of online schooling and removing them from in-person interactions is deeply affecting them in more ways people seem to realize.

The Effect of COVID-19 on Homelessness - 1 views

  •
Many people have become homeless due to the pandemic. Landlords are raising the rent in this time of crisis and people aren't able to afford to live anymore. Unemployment rates have also gone through the roof
  •
This was a good, but very sad read. I cant imagine having to be evicted out of my home due to being out of work for something like the pandemic. Something completely out of your control. I know that Arizona temporarily put a notice during the lockdown that those who couldn't pay rent were not allowed to be evicted (I was one of them) but it didn't last long enough. Like the article states, COVID19 has long term affects not short ones meaning more time to recover from its effects are needed.

Hunger crisis and the G7 Leaders Response - 2 views

  •
The world's seven most rich nations talk about how they could help prevent famine in a number of different places around the world. They are supposed to meet every year, however, COVID got in the way of last year's meet, making the hunger crisis grow tremendously. They suspect over 230 million could face the threat of hunger. The response to help prevent malnutrition is underway as of mid-June 2021.
  •
I did not know covid 19 made famine worse. Aid budgets are getting reduced as a result of covid 19 as well.

Healthcare Disparities of Coronavirus Regarding Racial Inequality - 0 views

  •
This publication outlines the healthcare disparities caused by Covid-19 (Coronavirus) in relation to racial inequality, specifically, the access and quality of healthcare of the black communities affected by the virus. This article suggests that if black people had better access to and quality of healthcare, then the subsequent communities would not be hit so hard by the virus.
  •
I agree with this sentiment. By doing a Google search of Corona virus cases by zip code, you'll find that areas that are mostly populated by minorities were hit the worst.

Homeless encampments are becoming part of the American landscape - The Washington Post - 0 views

  •
There has been a rise in large communities of homeless people living in tents in various big cities across the United States. Many of them are living in tents instead of shelters to avoid getting COVID-19. The CDC even wants these communities to be left alone to prevent the aforementioned problem.
  •
It's sad to see so many homeless people especially when it's due to the pandemic. Its crazy how people would rather live in a tent than be in shelters. The shelters arent doing all they can to make sure these people feel safe so I see why they would rather not be in the shelters.

  •
This article describes the various ways that POC are treated differently. This can cause doctors to provide the wrong treatment or no treatment for the minority who don't have access to healthcare.
  •
The fact that we continue to face and see discrimination when it comes to health care is appalling. When dealing with health, health care providers should not be biased on who to help due to their skin color or certain characteristics.
  •
There is no reason why there should still be discrimination in health care, they're saving your life regardless of your color.

  •
This advocates for the implementation of universal healthcare in the United States. It also talks briefly about why Americans seem to be so resistant to a new healthcare system.
  • ...1 more comment...
  •
I feel the need for universal health care has been push to the headlines due to COVID-19, since so many people are unable to pay for healthcare.
  •
I liked how the article pointed out that people are doing go fund me accounts and that is a good example because many people are unable to afford healthcare and people are depending on other individuals to pay for their medical bills and it is a huge issue.
  •
I really liked the article and liked how it gives examples of what is happening due to healthcare being so expensive.
