Jindal Challenges Obama's Unlawful Coercion Common Core - 0 views

  •
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal filed a lawsuit in federal court last month against the Obama administration over its use of federal funding and waivers from No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to encourage states to adopt Common Core national standards and tests. Those in opposition to Common Core feel that the standards in place under Common Core could possibly result in standardizing weakness instead of reinforcing standards of excellence. The proof of this concern is found as states compare the effects of Common Core against previous standards of excellence. Those who agree with Governor Jindal's concern argue that Common Core national standards and testing will ultimately support federal control over education - a move that will only further weaken individual responsibility of schools and districts.

Protecting The Freedom To Vote Against Wrongful Challenges And Intimidation | Demos - 0 views

  •
Protecting the freedom to vote for all eligible Americans is of fundamental importance in a democracy founded upon the consent of the governed. Clearly boundaries for poll watchers are often crossed. These challenges lead to stricter rules that need to be followed by honest, law abiding citizens that just make it harder to vote.

This kind of article should be spread around to help decrease and get rid of bullies. Many just think that it's only teasing but they don't know that can stay with you forever. This article shows that we do stay with lasting affects when bullied.
  •
Restorative Justice is fine when you have a student who is willing to put forth the change and in turn is a positive role-model for their peers. Sometimes, it's just a pat on the back and the student is left to deal with the challenges of being in a school where bullying is tolerated by their peers. Sometimes these pre-teens and teens have some serious mental issues that need to be addressed outside of school. It infuriates me that the innocent, kind and quiet kids, become targets for these kids. Bullying is a power play by some very manipulative children. I vote for serious consequences on bullies. Kick them out of school period! 1st offence, your counseled, 2nd offence there is the door!
  •
This article should be exposed to anyone who has been bullied or bullied anyone.

It is so sad that someone else's actions can forever alter your mental state or even end your life.

I do agree Discrimination happens every where. Discrimination can be about many different hings such as race, gender or disabilities one might have.
  •
This article talks about how discrimination can be found anywhere. I think that this article is very important. People being discriminated against sometimes feel like they are powerless to speak up and recognizing it as a issue will bring more confidence to those who struggle.
  •
This website talks about Discrimination and inequality. It mentions how discrimination is found in employment, education and more. The author then talks about ways to treat discrimination.

Information on childhood obesity and other related health concerns - 1 views

  •
In general a good website for all topics concerning health. I have included a direct link to the obesity section. 2 in 3 American adults or either overweight or obese. This makes America the leading country in problems such as, diabetes and heart disease.
  •
I also bookmarked an article about child obesity. It is very informative on statistics about child obesity and how much it is growing.
  •
I also found that not only obesity is linked to diseases and disabilities but it can affect a person mentally. The article I found explained how a persons mental health is what makes the process of preventing obesity more challenging

4 gun-related incidents at AZ high schools prompt call for metal - Arizona's Family - 1 views

  •
This article talks about four different high school shootings that happen in Arizona. Students are bringing guns to school and are found inside their vehicle. Rumors on social media have been reported to the police thta a student was suspected to bring a gun to school.
  •
Even coming from somebody who carries, I think schools are right to punish a student for having a gun in their car. One because its not allowed, and two because its not allowed! Keep it at home.
  •
I completely agree with students being punished for having guns in cars at school. If it is against the rules then there should be consequences. In my opinion, it is the same has taking a gun to a sporting event or in a hospital, if it is it allowed it is simply not allowed.

In a post-truth world, what is real anymore? - 4 views

  •
This article talks discusses how we are bombarded with information. People seem to be drawn to articles that cause high emotion and they feel compelled to react. However, we really can't tell what is real anymore. Information changes constantly, and people are becoming indifferent to what they see or hear.

This article I feel is something that I could relate to. I never know what to believe anymore as information changes all the time. Politics & opinions play a very large role in this.
  •
This is a great article, As a society a lot of people do not know what or who to believe anymore. I found this very relateable.
  •
This article really spoke to me, personally I have found that I cant really trust the news or really any source of information as they are both are always going in different directions. Great find!

This article brings to light a crazy social norm. It is very difficult to truly know what is real without first-hand knowledge. It is very sad that we don't know who or how to trust anymore.

Unequal Access to Health Care Costs Us All - 3 views

  •
This article discusses how corrupt the healthcare in America is compared to other countries. It shares why they make the healthcare expensive & who it ultimately benefiting from it, being the pharmaceutical industry & the rich. Also shares how even though your work may pay for you healthcare, you're still the one getting gyped.

I actually wrote a presentation last semester on how the U.S. healthcare system is flawed. In my presentation, I outlined issues such as these. It's refreshing to see others share my views. Personally, this is an interesting read, as I intend on being a part of the healthcare industry. That being said, I believe future generations of healthcare workers need to be educated in matters such as these, so that one day, we may hopefully be able to "fix the system."
  •
America's healthcare is the most expensive amongst industrialized nations. But higher costs aren't leading to a healthier population or longer life expectancy. The high cost of healthcare negatively affects the American economy in many ways.
  •
I found this article to be very fascinating indeed. I hope that one day we will have a health care system that is excess-able to all Americans. Hopefully a solution will be properly found during our life time.

No Longer the Land of the Free - 0 views

  •
This is an article that has a general list of 10 personal freedoms we no longer have in America. I found it very interesting because it includes "not typical" issues such as; in a school in Chicago, students are not allowed to bring their own lunch, and many states are "seizing unclaimed safe deposits". The article touches a few common issues such as airport security but also has some very unconventional issues.

What are some interesting statistics about bullying? - 1 views

  •
Bullying can happen in the schools, but it also happens online. A child could be doing homework online ad actually be bullied by social media like Facebook. Bullying is not targeted to a single group of people. At any given time, anyone can be the subject of a bully. Most kids do not report it. It can happen at any age for any reason.
  •
I found this thread to be informative. It's sad that I am not surprised by how high the rates of bullying are. It is a truly horrible issue that won't be stopped until parents step in and teach their children how to treat others. I also feel that it's the responsibility of witnesses and school staff to report any bullying and make sure it is resolved, which seems to not happen very often.
