Magnitude of Trends in Alcohol-Related Mortality and Morbidity Among U.S. College Stude... - 0 views

  •
I selected this article because I work as a substance abuse counselor and I see many clients that have withdrawn from or failed classes. I liked this article because it highlights the severe, sometimes deadly consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. Students encounter pressure to use drugs or alcohol from numerous places, and usually the negative consequences are not only failed to be mentioned, but even hidden until they are experienced. I would like to know more about how college students who do not engage in abusing substance deal with the social pressure to drink and use.

I selected this article because I had a friend to die of an overdose. Drugs are only momentarily fixes but death last forever.

Stress In College: Common Causes of Stress In College - 0 views

  •
What I learned is that a lot of students do stress in college. In high school the parents and the teachers was more hands on than in college it is all up to the students to get to class on time and turn in the work on time. Social stress is a big factor with college students. Students have to deal with finding a roommate, having time for friends and school work. Some students have to get part time or full time jobs and deal with relationships. New students deal with missing home, staying up late studying and get all their work done on time. Some students that stress a lot may gain weight their first year if they don't know how to deal with all the stress coming their way. Only half of the students who go to college will graduate. Stress will make a lot of students drop out of college.

I chose this article because it explains a few different types of anxiety issues and has a link in the article on how to cope with anxiety. I would like to learn different techniques doctors are using to help with these issues.

I choose this article because it focus on students dealing with anxiety and college. Students that start College for the first time or they are going back to college can have difficulties dealing with anxiety. Anticipatory anxiety is a type of anxiety that can occurs leading up to an event. People can get anticipatory anxiety anytime they are waiting for a phone call or just waiting for a date. College students who are leaving home for the first time may struggle with the anxiety that they are going to be away from home. It often happens within the first couple weeks to months of going off to college. A lot of colleges have counsel centers to help students with the issues they are going through.

I chose this article because I suffer from depression. I did not realize that college was so stressful when I started this quarter. The stress from having multiple assignments due at one time or having to prepare for a test. To top it off there is everyday life and work. I can see how depression can become an issue with college syudents. I just thought this article was helpful.

Depression effects more people than you know. Being overwhelmed with college courses and everyday life is normal. Developing a routine I think would help. I do not suffer from depression per say, but I do have anxiety about being able to finish this on top of everything else I have going on.

It did not surprise me to learn that alcohol abuse is more prevalent among college students than non-college students, because when young people get together by themselves without any adult supervision the temptation to over indulge is there.

How to Reduce College Stress - 1 views

  •
I selected this article because stress is a part of all college student's lives. I really enjoyed the abundance of ideas that the article presented to help college students alleviate stress. I find that most people attempt to rid stress by taking medication or eliminating the stressor: neither of which are a viable option for most college students. I also like that the article incorporates links to the various examples of stress reducers. I think the article is imformative and covers so many ideas that it does not need further clarification.

In this article you learn that alcohol is the primary drug affecting college students, I started reading this article expecting to learn about other drugs and was shocked to see that the primary was alcohol. I was also shocked at the number of deaths per year related to alcohol with college students. I would like to learn more about prevention measures, colleges are putting in place to reduce these numbers.
