Lingro provides an on-line environment that allows anyone learning a language to quickly look up and learn the vocabulary most important to them. You place a web address within this site and all the words on that web page will become clickable.

This site would be really helpful for those students who are struggling readers and often don't know the meanings of words they are reading.

Daily Grammar provides simple and clear lessons on the basics of English grammar for grades 5-12. Set up in modules of five examples and a follow-up quiz, the simiplicity of the approach and the explanations make this a great site for students to use on their own when they feel they need self-paced remediation or enrichment. Mr. Bill Johanson, the author of the material, is a former junior and high school English teacher, with 30 years experience in the classroom.

This PBS site has a Galileo biography, an exploration of Galileo's telescope, and other interesting articles as well as fun interactive activities for grades 6-12. These games feature animated experiments including Galileo's ingenious experiment on gravity demonstrating that all objects fall at the same rate. Teacher's can find an archive of over 120 companion Web sites to past Nova TV programs by interest, program title, or year of broadcast. There is a searchable teacher's section with classroom activities, TV program descriptions, related NOVA resources, and explorations for students. The video is not free but the interactive experiments on this site are very nice. They are animated and the kids predict what will happen before you activate the animations.

This is a wikispace link to the American Treasures Box. The students. The LIU 12 in collaboration with Waynesburg University's Teaching with Primary Sources program is now offering American Treasures Boxes and digital resources, each based on a specific topic from American history. The American treasures boxes consist of a resource CD/flash drive, printed documents and images from the Library of Congress and ideas about how you might incorporate the materials into your classroom. Search Credible is a search service that allows you to access 26 different search engines from one location. Included in the list of search engines Search Credible searches are Wolfram Alpha, EBSCO, ERIC, and the usual suspects such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Read Print is a free service providing access to more than 8,000 free books and essays written by more than 3,500 authors. The titles available through Read Print are generally works that are in the public domain or have Creative Commons licensing. The collection of works contains many of the classics in fiction and non-fiction literature. In addition to books, poems, and essays you can also find plays on Read Print. You can search by author, title, or quotation for titles on Read Print. Maps 101 appears to not be free but has a trial version. ti appears to be K-12. It includes materials for Spanish language educators and those teaching students with limited English. I couldn't find information on the purchase but I did see that you can request an extension on the trial version.

I have often wondered if there was a tool to organize my own library of books and I think th is may be it.

This math site was created to help students. It is an on-going work in progress and will be updated periodically. There are a lot of free math worksheets on the site.

Geograffiti creats voice-marks - audio postings to specific map locations. For example, a history teacher assigns his students to create an audio tour about local history. The students go to various historical monuments and buildings in the community and then phone in historical summaries of the significance of these sites to Geograffiti, which places the oral recordings in the appropriate geographic locations on the map. This activity would enable students to research local history, pratice public speaking, and learn geography in one assignment.

Jott can be used by students to help keep themselves organized. The voice-to-text services enable users to call in reminders to themselves, send e-mails or text messages to group sof people, create posts, create a schedule on a google calendar, listen to their Google calendar, listen to their e-mail, and even listen to podcasts and webpages on the go. http;//dial2do.com will work very much the same as Jott.

This site can be used for information gathering. Teachers can design instructional activities to help students learn how to use their cell phones as an anytime, anywhere research and information-gathering device. For example, while on a trip to historical Williamsburg, Virginia, a teacher tells his class to send any questions that occur to them to the free information site ChaCha. One student wonders why a certain building was constructed in such an odd way. No tour guides are around to help, so he calls 1-800-chacha, asks his question, and gets a text-message answer back in minutes.

Flickr allows students to take pictures and send them to a private space online. For example: A homework assignment for 4th grade mathematics students requires students to take pictures of different polygons they see in their everyday lives and instantly send them (along with a short text message describing the type of polygon) to a private space online. The next day in class the teacher can open the private space and use it to illustrate polygons and their connection to students' lives, leading to a lesson on how to measure these polygons. Both flickr.com and photobucket.com are sites that would allow this type of sharing. Both have a private mobile address that can be used on any mobile phone; the teacher just needs to set up the mobile account and give the students the address.

The website's main purpose is to help educators and schools around the world effectively integrate technology, including the wonderful tools on the vast World Wide Web, into the classroom. eduTecher provides links to thousands of Web Tools and provides concise information on how these tools may be useful in the classroom setting. The site's goal is simple: contribute to the academic world, without charging membership fees for the users or promoting specific software and hardware products through commercial advertising.

Shape It Up is one of many good educational games and activities on Kinetic City. Shape It Up is an activity that would be good for use in an elementary school Earth Science lesson. The activity presents students with "before" and "after" images of a piece of Earth. Students then have to select the force nature and the span of time it took to create the "after" picture. If students choose incorrectly, Shape It Up will tell the student and they can choose again.

Learning Games for Kids offers games for mathematics as well as many other content areas. Most of the games on Learning Games for Kids can be played directly on the website although some do link out to other sources.
