Daily Grammar provides simple and clear lessons on the basics of English grammar for grades 5-12. Set up in modules of five examples and a follow-up quiz, the simiplicity of the approach and the explanations make this a great site for students to use on their own when they feel they need self-paced remediation or enrichment. Mr. Bill Johanson, the author of the material, is a former junior and high school English teacher, with 30 years experience in the classroom.

A host of various reading + writing resources. Heavy emphasis on online graphic organizers as basic materials.

A new public television show designed to teach children basic financial literacy. It covers personal finance topics, such as credit, saving, budgeting, investing, and charity. Free lesson plans are available online for each show. The program will air on public television stations around the United States.

"This lesson will introduce DNA, genes, chromosomes, the chemicals that make up DNA, etc. After the basic information, students will do an experiment in which they will separate out DNA from peas. Knowing that DNA can be separated will give them a base of understanding for future lessons in biology, evolution, biotechnology, and health technology."

This free math worksheets site has numerous math topics from basic math to advanced math. The printouts are in PDF format and in addition to the question sheet thee is an answer key.

A series of short lessons (with abundant examples and worksheets) for use in teaching basic professional writing skills. I encountered in a grad class, but much of it looks like it can be easily applied to secondary students.

The purpose of this resource is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Eductional Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should prossess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discuver what studetns need in order to meet the NETS for Students.

This site is really nice. Many of the things we talked about in the grad class are covered here but the really nice thing about this site is that it take the NETS-T that we used and makes a connection to Marzano's 9 (Classroom Instruction that Works) and 21 things. It is really interesting. On the home page check out the two downloads of 21things and Marzano. On the right if you click on any of those categories, tools that can be used are presented. This is definitely one you will want to save in your own diigo library.

Online Survey tool. There is a basic plan which is free.

Allows teachers to turn basic cell phones into classroom performance clickers at no charge. Studetns can send poll responses and ideas achieved through bdrainstorming directly to an interactive webpage. An example of the use may be that when the students walk into class the teacher has a question on the IWB that students will need to respond to as their activating strategy for the lesson.

"Arcademic Skill Builders are free research-based and standards-aligned educational games! Engage and motivate students with our multiplayer and single-player games." As of August 2011 Academic Skill Builders has released 40 web-based learning games designed to help K-8 students build basic math, olanguage arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills. The games incorporate multiplayer capabilities in educational gaming. Studetns can play together in groups of 4, 8, or 12 at a time, promoting positive interaction and achievement. Educators can use the free arcade-like games with a projector screen, interactive whiteboard, or computer lab. Security safeguards ensure that no one outside the classroom can contact students who are playing the games. The games align with state standards and the Common Core Standards.

Sharing this again as there have been some additions to that that I think will be very helpful for teachers grades K-8.

XP Math is a good place to find math games, math videos, math worksheets, and math e-books. The games section of XP Math offers games for basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and probability. Create an account on XP Math and you can keep track of your scores.

Another good website for learning and practicing language basics is Literacy Center.net. Literacy Center offers games for learning and practicing French, Spanish, German, and English. The Literacy Center is a 501c non-profit with a contract from the US Department of Education.

Digital Dialects offers a nice selection of educational games and activities for learning 55 different languages. Most of the games are designed to learn and practice the basics of each of the 55 languages listed on the Digital Dialects homepage.
