    DPLA Primary Source Sets are designed to help students develop their critical thinking skills by exploring topics in history, literature, and culture through primary sources. Each set includes an overview, ten to fifteen primary sources, links to related resources, and a teaching guide. Although content is American, the sets cover topics of relevance to global issues on immigration, slavery, prejudice, exploration and so forth. They can also be used to support the teaching of the use of primary sources.

The organizers are intended to focus on the key elements of character, setting, conflict, and resolution development.
