Reading science trade books is the perfect way for students to build literacy skills while learning science content. The books that appear in these lists were selected as outstanding children's science trade books. They were chosen by a book review panel appointed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) and assembled in cooperation with the Children's Book Council (CBC).

Leadership is far from a science. Many would even argue that it is more of a form of art. Since effective leadership means different things to different people, I wanted to dive a little deeper into this debate to glean a better understanding as to what great leaders do. It consists of a convergence of art and science.

Excellent interactive site targetting primary studnets but some contwould stimulate discussion with older students. The interactive climate change map (from the Weather and Climate menu button) is an excellent start. Site includes games, videos to view, things to make and much more with a menu that addresses science concepts.

Teaching science in middle school is fraught with challenges. The textbooks are dense with unfamiliar concepts, the vocabulary unique and difficult, and the students reticent to talk about the text (Fang 2006). Often, the teacher does not have the necessary hands-on materials, and has no supplementary texts in the class - room. Because there is so much to cover in the curriculum, ever y minute in class is valuable (Abell and Lederman 2007). So, how can reading aloud to middle school students be a valuable use of time?
