I-Search - Emerging Perspectives on Learning, Teaching and Technology - 1 views

  •
I-Search is the process of searching for answers to questions which have personal meaning to the writer combined with a metacognitive review of the search process. Instead of restating old information as done in the traditional research paper, I-Search is inquiry-based and the path of discovery is driven by the need to find answers. I-Search embraces the emotional involvement of the writer and imparts the inner conflicts discovered as it becomes necessary to choose between alternative answers to questions along the way. I-Search is the story of the search rather than the summary of answers found in traditional research papers.

Genrify your Catalog, not your Collection! - - 0 views

  •
"Why Genrifying Your Collection Makes It Harder to Find Things And therein is the fault with genrifying our libraries on the shelves; a title one person might classify as a mystery might be considered romance to another. Or what if it's both? Or both and also dystopian? You can add different tags if the book is in your library catalog. The book probably has multiple subject listings. Students and teachers have various search pathways: keyword, subject, title, and an advanced Boolean search. But it only has one location on the shelf."

Teacher read-alouds demonstrate the power of stories. By showing students the ways that involvement with text engages us, we give them energy for learning how reading works. By showing them how to search for meaning, we introduce strategies of understanding we can reinforce in shared, guided, and independent reading.
