Joshua A. Danish says it takes a village to effectively integrate new technologies such as the iPad into elementary classrooms. As we reported recently, some school districts are investing in iPad2 touchpad tablets in kindergarten classrooms. In an opinion piece published in the Indianapolis Star, Indiana University assistant professor Joshua A. Danish says that though tablets such as the iPad have potential to be a powerful tool for teaching and learning, educators shouldn't jump the gun.

Get the Math is a multimedia project about algebra in the real world. See how professionals working in fashion, videogame design, and music production use algebraic thinking. Then take on interactive challenges related to those careers.

TED brings their thoughtful approach to lesson development for classroom use. The animation of videos is interesting and worth exploring. I am more intrigued by the possibility of developing a library of good lessons using YouTube and the TED talks.There is power in numbers. 

"28 tools for creating graphs, Gantt charts, diagrammers, calendars/schedulers, gauges, mapping, pivot tables, OLAP cubes, and sparklines, in Flash, Flex, Ajax or Silverlight." Not all free, but there is a free tool from Google that wasn't too hard to use.

The Kerpoof website is owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company. What is Kerpoof? The answer to that is not so simple. Kerpoof is all about having fun, discovering things, and being creative. Here are just a few ways that you can use Kerpoof: * Make artwork (even if you aren't good at drawing!) * Make an animated movie (really! it's easy!) * Earn Koins which you can trade for fun things in the Kerpoof Store * Make a printed card, t-shirt, or mug * Tell a story * Make a drawing * Vote on the movies, stories, and drawings that other people have made

Thanks Roland. I shared this article with my SR coaches. Many of them made plans to have their students use the video conferencing equipment to chat with an author. Skype provides them a free option they can begin utilizing while they are waiting for the IVC equipment to arrive and be installed. Also nice to have that quick list of authors for them to consider inviting into their classrooms. Thanks :)

Interesting Animated history of the US. I like the idea, I wonder if students could use this model to create their own map/timeline combo to present information. 

Interactive science and engineering modules with some games. Mostly recall, but might be an interesting way to get students to interact with the IWB

The Bugscope project provides free interactive access to a scanning electron microscope (SEM) so that students anywhere in the world can explore the microscopic world of insects. This educational outreach program from the Beckman Institute's Imaging Technology Group at the University of Illinois supports K-16 classrooms worldwide.

Is this the direction textbooks will take in the near future? The content is important and is the center of this idea. It's also slightly portable (downloadable, accessible on up t o3 computers, and able to print 30%). This site makes annotations possible and more importantly sharable! The content is supported by learning communities! I like this idea; you even have the possibility of sharing beyond your classroom walls.

11 Techy Things for Teachers to Try This Year The new school year is here for many teachers. For those who haven't started school yet, the new school year will be here soon. If you've set the goal of trying something new in your classroom this year (shouldn't that always be one of our goals), here are eleven techy things teachers should try this year.

If you like Wallwisher, you'll love this new tool. It is Wallwisher with more space and flexibility. I love this tool! It's in Beta and free at this time. I don't expect that it will remain that way.

Great set of ideas/resources for using QR codes. I tihnk QR codes have great potential for creation and sharing with mobile tools.  Create a podcast/screencast, put the QR code image on your worksheet/review sheet/unit plan and let students access the information as they need from their phone/smartphone/pad...  Marry print and digital, I love it!
