Are you new to using an interactive whiteboard (IWB)? Have you used one for ages but want some other ideas? Are you using an IWB regularly but know you could use it better? Then you are invited to join The 2010 Interactive Whiteboard Challenge! The aim of the IWB Challenge: To improve the use of interactive whiteboards in classrooms everywhere by having students and teachers set challenges for each other by creating videos and screencasts of ways they use their IWB. The aim is also to connect educators and students to others who are working at improving their IWB practice.

From Glencoe, some IWB looking mathematics manipulatives including color counters, algebra tiles, protractors, ruler, etc. that can be manipulated either on the computer of on the IWB screen.

Marzano Group indicates IWBs have a positive impact on student learning. Preliminary report published in  fall of 2009 and this is the final report. Report indicates an additional 3 months of learning IF...  effective integration of interactive tools accompanied by PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT!!!

Simple tool, but easy to use and nice for building some quick examples using the IWB. There are other ways of doing it using Smartboard software, but kids can use this tool, create some examples, do screen captures, and share with each other or in docs.

Nice set of applets that let students explore fraction understanding from multiple perspectives and models. I love that they use a variety of models for fractional development, including bars (multiple versions), sets, and linear. From the site:  "Why Fractions? Fractions are one of the earliest stumbling blocks for students in math. Our goal is building conceptual understanding in fractions as a basis for comprehension in all later topics."

An easy to create activity for use with a smartboard. I like the Guess the Wordle of the Day concept, I like that students try to guess based on contextual clues, and I like that it uses the Smartboard (although it's a relatively low level usage, it's still interactive.)

Looking for a great interactive venn diagram activity then look no further. Students can work on their multiples/multiplication/lcm skills in an interactive way. If you have a smartboard then just imagine the fun students can have.

Some interesting activities to do with the Smart board in a mathematics classroom. I tried a couple of the activities and I did like that students were asked to estimate and predict. If teachers had clickers in their classrooms, this would be a great way of getting students to predict, record and then predict again and use the clickers for more than opening bell activities.
