Is only one iPad in a classroom worth it? This question keeps reappearing on the EC Ning and in other blog spaces. The answer is easy: YES, especially if the teacher has access to a Mac desktop or (preferably) laptop and a wifi network in the classroom. It is an even larger YES if the Mac device has the most current operating system. Having a computer to which the iPad can sync is not absolutely necessary, but it is a Best Idea. If you are not feeling confident, get your IT person or another teacher to help you out with setup. I am focused here on apps to install for MS and HS - and then what to do with them.

Harry Leibowitz co-founded the World of Children Award with his wife, Kay Isaacson-Leibowitz. He used $250,000 of his own money to fund what would later be touted as the "Nobel Prize© for Children" after realizing that there's no award-giving body that acknowledges those whose work are focused on children. Since World of Children started giving awards, it has helped 30 million children from 140 countries and has granted around $5M to their 95 Honorees.

Nancy Lublin is an entrepreneur, business consultant and philanthropist who is most famous for founding Dress for Success, an organization that provides career development training and interview suits for aspiring young people; and currently being the chief executive officer of DoSomething.org, a non-profit organization that focuses on motivating young people to do their part and create change in their communities through participating in nationwide campaigns.

Valens Ntamushobora is a young student and activist from Rwanda who is most known for founding the Let Us Stay Alive (LUSA) Program initiative, a project that focuses on giving opportunities for young girls who are in misery such as young mothers, out of school, and those living in the streets. A truly devoted individual, Valens has spent a great deal of his time and efforts to ensure two things: gender equality in the community and the welfare of young girls and poor women.

Timothy Hwang is a young businessman, philanthropist, entrepreneur and politician who is most popular for founding the National Youth Association, a nationwide organization in the United States that focuses on youth advocacy; the National Youth Lobby: and FiscalNote, a highly-ranked data analytics firm. What is so amazing about him is that he established these organizations and businesses at a young age, and is currently named as a rising star in politics in the United States.

Narayanan Krishnan is a social worker and philanthropist who is most famous for being hailed as one of the CNN Heroes of the Year in 2010. A person filled with service and compassion, Narayanan is the founder and current head of the Akshaya Trust, a non-profit organization focused on feeding the homeless, poor and mentally ill, giving them free haircuts, and providing homes so they would not need to stay on the streets.
