In a parallel of a market economy, we find ourselves in an attention economy, tailoring our digital stories to maximize the numbers of friends, followers or replies, deploying our digital narratives in competition with other users for a share of the audience’s limited attention. Rather than engage in conversations, we can find ourselves attempting to cultivate audiences.
-
As educators, we know that we need to help young people understand how their digital stories might be interpreted and appropriated, and support them to maintain their privacy. But can we also find ways to help them tell their stories in ways that are not just about presenting idealized versions of themselves to a corporate world, but allow them to critique these narratives and gain agency over their own stories?

hat is, as we already know, the technology itself does not develop the skill, nor is it the teacher; the technology is only a tool, and teachers must remain committed to the collaborative process if students are to fully engage and develop the skills necessary to work collaboratively with their peers

T This really brought it home: "as we already know, the technology itself does not develop the skill, nor is it the teacher; the technology is only a tool, and teachers must remain committed to the collaborative process if students are to fully engage and develop the skills necessary to work collaboratively with their peers"

We will continue to build on using the iPads as a relevant learning device and to further develop and explore innovative ways and methods to best utilise them as tools for teaching and learning. Through the continued DEECD iPads 4 Learning trial Evaluation, i am sure that the data we gather from this will certainly give a great insight in to iPads for Learning.
-
Giving students the option to direct their own learning goes a very long way in giving them ownership of the task. It allows them to play to their strengths and their learning styles. This in turn increases engagement and with the massive amount of creative app’s available for students to use, this can only be a positive.

We have now been involved in the DEECD iPads 4 Learning Trial now for roughly 9 months .. I think that the students involved in the trial are past the iPads being a 'toy' and that the novelty of using these devices has also worn off. Using one of Google's great features, Google Docs, i created a form (survey) for the Yr 6 students to answer.
