Martha Ryan - Extraordinary People Changing the Game - 0 views

  •
What hope is there for children of women who are addicted to drugs? Or homeless? Desperate? They get so absorbed with their misery that they don't pay much attention to the baby they are carrying. Or maybe they care but their lives are so messed up they don't know what it's like to love another human being anymore. We can only give what we have. Speaking of giving, nobody does it better than Martha Ryan, a registered nurse who founded Homeless Prenatal Program. The idea behind it is to help end the cycle of childhood poverty. I'll restore British pride by beating Andre Ward, says Carl Froch ~ Daily World News - 0 views

  •
Carl Froch is aiming to restore British pride when he fights American Andre Ward in the final of the Super Six tournament in Atlantic City. In the past 12 months, British boxers have lost nine world title fights and won only two. "We're due a win, aren't we?" Froch, 34, said. "If you're a roulette table, eventually a red will come in. We've had eight blacks on the spin. "I want to put us back on the world map. We can't be a nation of losers." He added: "I have to bite down on to my gum-shield even harder because I've got to restore Britain's pride." Amir Khan, Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, John Murray, Brian Magee, Matthew Macklin, David Haye and Darren Barker have all lost fights abroad this year

The challenge and promise of learning organisations - The Learner's Way - 4 views

  •
There is a great deal that I like about this description of humanity at its best from Ryan & Deci. It is both a goal to be achieved and an indicator of conditions which are required for us to fulfil our potential. While the focus of this statement is on the actions of the individual we can see how society might act to deny individuals the opportunities to lead such an inspired and agentic life. I like to imagine what a school might be like if every individual who plays a part in its functioning strove to extend themselves, master new skills and apply their talents responsibly.  Maybe schools would be like the 'learning organisations' described by Peter Senge.
