Neuroscience has shown that our brains are plastic and that education, gaming and the use of technology can change our brains' connectivity, function and structure. (1, 2) But learning is more than just biology - it is affected by our learning environment and the people with whom and from whom we learn. So how do you take what neuroscience reveals about the plastic, learning brain and combine it with educational research, expertise and common sense? Klevar, in association with Flinders University, are offering you the chance to explore this with Dr Paul Howard-Jones of the University of Bristol, researcher and author of "Introducing Neuroeducational Research: Neuroscience, Education and the Brain from Contexts to Practice".

His dream is to have a laptop computer in the hands of every student. While he's not quite there yet, Paul Bogush has come very close using the resources at his disposal. The Moran Middle School teacher was awarded a spot at the Google Teacher Academy last month, but was already immersed in the Web's free portals to engage his eighth grade class and prepare students to communicate in a digital world.

The teaching of U.S. and world history is incomplete if it does not address the history of innovation from economic, scientific/technological, and sociological perspectives. We feel it important for students to be encouraged both to explore the role of innovation in U.S. and world history and to develop their own sense of innovation and creativity. Read the article and replace the word company with school or district. Betcha we could launch some rich, forward thinking conversations. Thus far, school systems seem to have taken all the worst things from business models. Maybe this article might allow us to think about how to build schools that support personal learning strategies.
