Good points, but completely misses the most powerful part of this - learning with others. but, from a branding expert, I guess this is primarily what they are concerned with - protecting and promoting one's brand. The sad part in this is that for some admins, it might actually take a piece in Forbes by a marketing person to catch their attention rather than the countless educators who having been promoting this message... and more.

If you think that the website Maps of World offers a huge collection of maps, you would be correct. If you guessed that the maps were of continents, nations, states, and cities then you would be right about that as well. What I discovered about Maps of World that I didn't expect was the amount of facts and information that accompanied their maps. Included with each map is the history, the demographics, the economic data and other useful facts of the continent/nation/state you looked up. They also feature road maps, printable maps, route planners, railroad maps, physical maps, and "Top Ten" themed maps. Maps of World is a great site for maps but it is so much more, it is a useful tool for learning about nations and their history. notes from Michael Sheehan

They don't know a tweet from a tag, identify Ning as a four-letter word for "river in China"; and would probably guess that Squidoo is a friend of SpongeBob and Patrick. Often, the first knowledge a teacher has of an English Language Learner (ELL) in the classroom is his name on a roster. It may look different from typical U.S. names. You may not know how to pronounce it. Sometimes you may be able to guess what language an ELL speaks by looking at his name and sometimes not. How can you prepare to best welcome this learner?
