In a world where anyone with an internet connection can access, create and share information, opinions and beliefs, it has become increasingly important that students are not only able to assess the credibility of sources but also to look more deeply at the underlying motivations, beliefs and bias of the creator.

It's equally true for educators that districts should (1) HAVE a social media policy and (2) make sure new hires are made aware of what they are and understand their role regarding the messy interplay of privacy and public, networked interactions.

Moreso than other social media, Twitter embraces an ethic of sharing credit. In fact, the more you recognize the work of others, the more you are engaging with the Twitterverse. It began with the simple RT, or retweet. If you liked what someone wrote or posted, you'd copy the tweet in its entirety, add RT along with his or her @name at the beginning, and post to your followers.
