Lien entre marchabilité et obésité ? The study also mapped childrens neighbourhood walkability and access to parks. When they compared the two spatial factors of access to nutritional food and walkability they found that these had the most important effect on obesity levels. Children who lived in walkable areas, with a child-friendly park nearby and access to healthy food had 59% lower odds of being obese. Kids that lived in car-dependent neighbourhoods with more fast food outlets had the highest levels of obesity (16%, which is the US average). But only 8% of children were obese in walkable areas with access to more healthy food.

It is important to have a certain (though not necessarily high) level of density in a sustainable neighborhood.  But we also need the right design, with connected streets, a pleasant environment that incorporates a variety of places to go and things to do, and that includes nature.  We need our community to feel and be safe for us to be out and about.  (The popsicle and Halloween tests are instructive here.)  All these things contribute to walkability.

Les terrains et habitations les plus chers deviennent ceux qui se trouvent dans des quartiers "marchables", où tout peut se faire à pied. Pour adresser les questions de l'accessibilité et éviter l'inflation des prix, des mesures seront à prendre...
