VoiceThread - Support - Resources - Publications Language Learning - 1 views

  • Abstract: Collaborative social interaction when using Web 2.0 in terms of VoiceThread is investigated in a case study of a Swedish university course in social psychology.
  • The results show that use of Web 2.0: a) supports students' reflections concerning their own and others' thoughts and emotions, b) supports individual students and integrates them into a work group, and c) develops students' identification and awareness in relation to self, a task and others.
  • Reflection is a core component of many outdoor education programs with many educators relying on journal writing as a means of facilitating reflection.

  • We speculated that it might be worth trying to engage these students with "their technology," and in this paper we explore if and how Web 2.0 technologies can support student journal writing behaviours in outdoor education.
  • With the advent of Web 2.0 tools, additional language educators can extend their classrooms beyond the traditional brick-and-mortar walls to communicate with the world. One of the best ways to do so is to introduce VoiceThread into language lessons. In doing so, students can create conversations that extend across the classroom or across the globe.
  • This review takes a look at current digital storytelling protocols and strategies currently displayed through VoiceThread creations, as well as detailed strategies conducive for a powerful digital storytelling tool such as VoiceThread.
  • This article documents the curricular decisions made by a teacher educator research team whose guiding theoretical focus for intern practice is dialogic instruction. Over a 2-year sequence, teaching interns used video and Web 2.0 technologies to respond critically to and revise their teaching practices in collaboration with peers and instructors.

I found this by chance just exploring around. If you check the SUPPORT section on the VoiceThread site, you will find a list of publications. They posted a collection of abstracts with links of scholarly articles written about using VoiceThread for language learning, K-12, higher education and professional development. I just skimmed through the lists, and some of the articles are accessible, while some are behind a password.

Adrianne, I found the site with a lot of information. I particularly enjoyed "Virtual Exchanges in the Foreign Language Classroom." It explains how to make the target language more accessible to students allowing for an understanding of perspectives and practices. Good outline of benefits of virtual exchanges.
  •
This is a practice-oriented publication that's a bit more casual in tone and practical in content than its scholarly counterparts, while still rigorous in the quality of information it offers. We will feature articles, interviews with notable folks in the field of language teaching and learning, reviews of software, materials, and books, and more!

This could be an advantage for Apple devices. Flash has occasional issues with Apple products.

That's good to know. My students have a mixed bag of devices, and several have Ipads.
  • The first time students watch a video, they are unable to skip through the video; they have to watch the whole thing from start to finish and attempt every question.
    • klmcguinness

Love this feature. Like with reading, middle schoolers pick through material to find the answers. We can't glue them to their seats, but they never know where those questions will pop up and they can't look ahead to see what answers they need to find. Love that!
  • You paste in the URL of the video, then watch it play

According to another blog I was reading regarding licensing and sharing, if the "embed" function is operable the owner has endorsed (consciously or thru oversight?) sharing.

  • The answers people choose in a public video are not collected by eduCanon.
    • klmcguinness

Good to know to allay students' fears. Will they even think that their answers would be made public-probably not most MS students.
  • You can assign a video to the class, and then eduCanon collects data for you on your class’ completion of the task and their responses to your questions.
  • all of those features are 100% free

Teacher Educator Technology Competencies - Learning & Technology Library (LearnTechLib) - 1 views

  •
"Abstract The U.S. National Educational Technology Plan recommends the need to have a common set of technology competencies specifically for teacher educators who prepare teacher candidates to teach with technology (U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Technology, 2017). This study facilitated the co-creation of the Teacher Educator Technology Competencies (TETCs). The TETCs define the competencies (knowledge, skills, and attitudes) all teacher educators need in order to support teacher candidates as they prepare to become technology-using teachers. The TETCs shed light on the roles and responsibilities of teacher educators who address technology within their courses. A highly collaborative research approach was used to develop the TETCs which involved the crowdsourcing of technology-related literature, a Delphi method for expert feedback, and an open call for public comment. As a result, 12 competencies with related criteria were identified. The TETCs should be viewed as a first step in a larger reform effort to better address technology integration in teacher preparation programs. The release of the TETCs provides future research opportunities including, but not limited to, implications for course design, relevant faculty development for teacher educators, and policy implications."

Video Introduction to Using Google Classroom - 0 views

  •
This is a YouTube video that introduces how to use Google Classroom. I sometimes like to watch video tutorials about how to use new technology because they give me a better idea about how the platform, website, tool will function for students. If you're looking for new material on YouTube, you can follow certain people's/organizations "channels," you can create public or private "playlists" of videos to save for yourself, or you can search for existing "playlists" that others have created.
