Preceden - The Easiest Way to Make a Timeline - 1 views

  •
"Want to make an amazing timeline? * Create a timeline for almost anything * Add multiple layers to keep events organized * Keep your timelines private or share them with others * Preceden is completely web-based and 100% free" "When you hover over an event, the timeline will display the approximate length of the event at your cursor location. Other ideas for timelines: coordinate a get together, research history, track your startup, organize a vacation, mastermind Thanksgiving dinner, learn about family history, plan a revolution, etc." User can set up layers, e.g., education, relationships, locations in a biography. Doesn't have ability to upload pictures or video, however. Good instructional page with examples.

Learning Never Stops: Timelines - Learn, Collaborate, Discover History - 2 views

  •
"Timelines is a site where history meets social media. The website itself is very useful by categorizing key historical events in several ways. You can browse the site by era, type of event (ie; war), or by date. They have a neat page where you simply select a date and the events that occurred on that date appear. Almost everything you find on Timelines is created by their community and registered users can record events and contribute descriptions, photos, videos and links related to events. Unlike a wiki, the site is built to display various (and potentially conflicting) descriptions of the same event from many different contributors which is always important when trying to understand historical events. Timelines is a great site because it allows you to report and discover history with your friends, colleagues, and students." from Learning Never Stops Blog

What does dipity do? It is a timeline maker, but you can use it to make a personal timeline of materials you create at other sites, such as Facebook, Slideshare, etc. This might be a good tool for haing students create a visual electronic portfolio. I would think you could, for instance, add an embedded Google doc or presentation, inter alia. Let the group know if you have tried this with students.

How Educators Are Using Learnist | MindShift - 1 views

  •
"Learnist, as many have already pointed out, works much like Pinterest - a way to catalog online resources on a topic and share them with the user's social network. And like Pinterest, it looks like a digital bulletin board with pictures and messages, and connects with Facebook accounts. In fact, the site's "learning boards" look quite a bit like Facebook's timeline feature, and Facebook membership is required to use Learnist at this point. In its current closed beta form, Learnist, launched by Grockit, is still very much in its infancy, but some curious teachers have already jumped on the wagon. Time will tell whether educators will stick with Pinterest, or migrate to Learnist because of its association with Grockit, which already has a large and loyal following as a social learning tool." Nice article on how educators are using Learnist. Hope this one makes it past Beta.

How to Make a Learnist Board - YouTube - 2 views

  •
This is a tutorial on how to get started at Learni.st, which lets you aggregate neat things you find on the Web. You can add it to your Facebook timeline (or not), Tweet it, and use images and video, while adding a few paragraphs on how to use the "learning" you added. As with a blog, others can comment on your contributions. Like WallWisher or Pinterist, items are collected bulletin board style. This tool might be useful for professional development, and for students as a means to collect Web items for a project. If being an archivist is an important part of the new Web, this might be a helpful visual tool.
