This is truly the best of the best podcasts for the inquisitve mind. Includes links to TED talks, "Stuffy you missed in history class," "This American Life," and even "Wait, Wait..." for fun. Excellent for the teacher who wants to keep up, or the advanced learner who might want lots of listening practice while learning about American culture and interests.

Has lists of online activities, categorized by "pre-intermediate," "intermediate," and "advanced" levels of learners, as well as links to a dozen or so chat groups for English learners, an online dictionary, and a variety of tests and exercises.

"It occurred to me that, at least for somewhat advanced learners (middle school and beyond?), I'd like to start having the learners propose evaluation criteria for rubrics. Why? Because, in the course of investigating what should be important, they're beginning to learn about what is important. "

Since its launch a few years ago, iCivics has steadily grown to the point that it now contains nineteen educational games for students. All of the games require students to take on a decision making role. To succeed in the games students have to apply their understanding of the rules and functions local, state, or Federal government. Some games require an understanding of the U.S. court system and or the Constitution." Sounds like a great site for advanced adult learners getting ready for citizenship, or for high school students studying civics. Listen to speakers from all over the world while reading a phonemic transcript of what they say. Looks as if it were developed for researchers, but it might be very useful for advanced learners who are studying pronunciation and accent reduction. Wouldn't be appropriate for beginning learners.

A collection of stories in podcasts from the NPR show, "This American Life," that relate to school and schooling. Very useful listening activity for the advanced learner, and stories will include local accents and cultural insights.

These resources include an APA Powerpoint tutorial, the APA Sixth Edition, advice on writing a dissertaion -- with samples -- the mechnaics of writing/grammar, and how to avoid plagiarism. For advanced, academic students.

Quizlet is a free flashcard service that anyone can use to create and share flashcards. Quizlet offers a massive library of flashcard sets created and shared by other users of the service. And now you can search for Quizlet flashcards, embed them into your wiki, and use four different study modes while those cards are embedded into your wiki. The screenshots below provide directions for adding Quizlet to your Wikispaces wiki." Quizlet can handle various types of media, so it makes for interesting flashcards. This step-by-step visual explanation makes the embedding task easy; creating the flashcards at Quizlet takes some work and thought.

This appears to be an infographic that shows how various Internet tools support the Common Core Standards, though it doesn't seem to mention the Common Core. The standards listed, however, are quite ins[iring, and the visual elements with small abstracts desribing each tool, are helpful for finding something that might work with your own classes.

The focus here is on tools for collaboration. Many are new and interesting, such as virtual whiteboards, searchteam to do online searches together, browse websites together, create online projects collaboratively, create your own chatroom, etc.. Some of these will be gone quickly, but they all appear quite useful. About 30 in the list.

You can upload PowerPoint or pdf files and add your audio and/or webcam visuals. Might be useful to advanced students in creating presentations.

" A free online Talking Dictionary of English Pronunciation " This really looks impressive and simple to use! Would be great especially for both advanced students and beginning learners.

The targeted audience of this website are teachers of academic writing courses and college students, but it can also be used by advanced ESL learners to improve their academic writing skills. The website provides rich information on academic writing including types of academic writing (i.e. book reports, annotated bibliography, academic proposals, admission letters), academic writing techniques (i.e. paraphrasing, summarizing), style and editing, using sources, researching techniques, and some common ESL writing issues. This might be an interesting tool to use with advanced writing students. It appears to be a toolbar add-on with Collect, Organize, Cite, Sync, and Collaborate features. Works with Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Very useful for somewhat more advanced learners to study individual sounds as well as stress and intonation in the supra-segmentals.

"Back in August I shared an infographic featuring search strategies that every student can use. Yesterday, Vicki Davis posted a great companion to that infographic. Vicki shared this Google Search Modifiers Poster (link opens a PDF). Many of the modifiers featured in the poster can also be used by opening the advanced search menu in Google and making search choices.
