Searching by file type and searching by domains is a great way for students to refine their Google searches. Searching for and within a DOC, a PPT, or XLS file can lead students to resources that they might not otherwise have seen.

This is a video tour of Google TV, which offers TV channels on the Web with an excellent search engine. Also has apps, e.g., connections to NetFlix, Twitter, Amazon, et al. An excellent site with mock-up sites to help students explore search engines, evaluate what they read on the Internet, plagarism, etc.

A Pinterest-type site with short reviews of lesson plans for teaching with film, and descriptions of films that might be used for education, especially those with cross-cultural interest. Will take some willingness to hunt, though there is a search engine.

"The online royalty free public domain clip art" The search engine works pretty well. A good place for adding illustrations to student projects.

Called "A collaborative rubric toolkit," the search engine will help you find a pre-created rubric, and has K-6 rubric sam[les for assessing student writing as well.

Be sure your students select really unique tags. (In this example, there is a YouTube video and other materials related to Spider-Man, whose fans are also called "Webheads.")

" Looks like a good way to "publish" things for your students to read, or for them to publish their own projects as a class magazine.

The site begins at a map with pegs for locations, or you can use a modet search engine. It willtake a little time to find something you want. Commons licensing for most pictures.

Got to Time.com, select the pull-down menu for Videos, and use the Search engine to find "10 Questions." There are hundreds of these--questions for famous people, newsmakers, politicians, etc. Great way to examine cultural assumptions, explore current events, etc. Teachers will have to develop the lessons. "TubeChop allows you to easily chop a funny or interesting section from any YouTube video and share it." It's handy that the site begins with a search engine to find a topic or URL in YouTube.

"A podcast sounds better with a bit of music in it. " This blog also has links to the Creative Commons search engine.

Hundreds of how-to videos (mainly on lifestyles) that could be used for Hot Pot exercises, particularly for high school-adult classes. Some content may be objectionable to the very strict (e.g. "How to Photograph a Nude Woman," though it is quite tastefully done), but most is highly practical, and some looks very professional. The only thing lacking is a good organizational system, besides its search engine general categories, and tags. A good project would be to have students make their own instructional video to add to the collection.
