      Make sure to emphasize the need to keep careful records as that is what makes this activity appropriate for teaching the Nature of Science.  This activity is excellent for showing children the value of records as it utilizes information from 50 years ago.  Discovering patterns and trends is also very appropriate in this area of study.  Creating a presentation of the information would offer a chance to incorporate different multiple intelligences.

This can also be adjusted for older groups by having them classify animals they see, which could include mammals, insects, fish, etc. They could also describe many other characteristics, such as the types of food these animals or insects eat.

(This will help ELL students enhance their vocabulary) Extensions: You can extend this activiy by having students create a venn diagram and identify similarities and differences. Older grades can also extend the activity by researching their plants/flowers more (locations it is found, type of flower, how effecte environment...etc) and creating a poster board that they will present in the class.

      I chose this site because it had great explinations of the weather. You can create many different activities to demonste understanding of weather. One thing I would do it first teach the students the aspests of weather and the differences in lengths of daylight in difference seasons. Then , we would all together do an activity to determine the difference in Earth's titls and how it affects weather during different seasons. Extensions: you can extend this activity for younger students by creating a chart to graph the different seasons and what the weather looks like in those seasons, then you can demonstrate the earths tilt with a globe and have the students guess which season they think our state would be in depending on Earth's tilt. Adaptions: I would suggest using illustrations to explain vocabulary, they can make a vocabulary journal.

      My only concern is that the students may think the moon actually does get "a bite" taken out of it and changes shape instead of realizing that it always remains circular, but it just appears to be different shapes based on the position of the moon in relation to the sun and the Earth. If you use this activity, be sure to make it perfectly clear that the moon is always round.

    Have students keep track of the phases of the moon by using marshmallows glued to construction paper. The students observe the moon each night, and bite the marshmallow into a replica of what they observed.

I would give specific guidelines in some cases, especially for younger grades, but it would be great to allow older students to have time to brainstorm the kind of ecosystem they wanted to complete and allow them to go through the research process to create a good replica of that ecosystem.
