    In this game students roll a dice and depending on the number they rool they put that many chips in a cup.  At the end of each round the students must count up their chips and winners must put a 20% "winner's tax" back into the cup for the next game.

The extra time may allow them enough time to think through their answers without feeling rushed. This can also be used for gifted students in the opposite way. The allotted time can be shorter, which encourages them to give their answers quickly! This activity can be used with younger ages by having the students practice their math facts, rather than their multiplication facts.

    In this activity, students play a game of war using multiplication facts. Each player flips over two cards, and says the math sentence for those two cards. For example, if one student flipped over a 4 and a 5, he or she would say, "4 x 5 = 20". Using a timer, the teacher can set a designated amount of time. When the time is up, each player counts their cards. The person with the most cards wins!

      You could combined with lesson with a lesson on graphing as well by asking students to record how many times each math sentence occurs and graphing the result.  Since you are essentially flipping coins you should get a nice bell curve.

      you can extend this lesson for 1st or 2nd grade by paring them up into two. They lay the 5 out and one person is the "dealer" and the other person is the "guesser". The guesser gets to ask if the card is higher or lower than 5. After the dealer resonds the guesses must try to guess which number they think the dealer has. If they guess it correclty the dealer keeps the deck, and if they guess it incorrectly the dealer passes the deck on and they switch roles. This is a great activity to reviewing , or =.

For example, you could use it to teach place value for first grade using money, or teaching how to count change for kingergarten. Also, you could set up a class store and demonstrate positive and negative intergers pretending to "shop" for items in the classroom, this cold be a great 3rd grade activity. You could make a "grocery list" and give them a spending amount and demonstrate - or + integers!

      Math Fact Bingo: this would be a great addition to review day where kids are rotating between activities that are focused on skills from a specific unit. It would also be great to add counting bears or other manipulatives to allow kids the ability to use several intelligences while doing this activity (kinesthetic, visual, logical, verbal)

    In this activity students will practice adding two-, three-, and four-digit numbers.  Player's take turns adding numbers that they land on after rolling a dice.  Each player will also take turns checking his or her partner's answers on a calculator.

When blowing bubbles the students could also count how many bubbles they were able to make with each shape and write that number down. ELL students could practice just making the shapes with pipe cleaners. Students who are farther behind could work with other students in creating different shapes, but after that they could blow their own bubbles outside. The students could also skip the bubble blowing and just create shapes with pipe cleaners and glue these on paper to create a pipe cleaner shape display. Older students could also do this activity with more advanced shapes.

      Giving each student a bean plant creates a sense of ownership and responsibility. The students will be able to watch the plant grow from a bean to a plant, watering and measuring it's growth each day. This would be a great activity for partnering- An ELL student could be paired with an English speaking student and they could work together as a team to take care of their plants and record plant growth.

This can also be adjusted for older groups by having them classify animals they see, which could include mammals, insects, fish, etc. They could also describe many other characteristics, such as the types of food these animals or insects eat.
