    "Human Centered Design Toolkit Close For years, companies and other organizations have used Human-Centered Design to arrive at innovative business solutions. Funded by IDE as part of a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and in collaboration with non-profit groups ICRW and Heifer International, IDEO relied on this approach to improve the lives of communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The resulting HCD Toolkit helps NGO staff and volunteers understand people's needs in new ways, find innovative solutions to meet these needs, and deliver solutions with financial sustainability in mind. The free kit is divided into four sections that bolster listening skills, running workshops, and implementing ideas. The HCD Toolkit contains the elements to Human-Centered Design, a process used for decades to create new solutions for multi-national corporations. This process has created ideas such as the HeartStart defibrillator, Cleanwell natural antibacterial products, and the Blood Donor System for the Red Cross--innovations that have enhanced the lives of millions of people. This process has been specially-adapted for NGOs and social enterprises that work with impoverished communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and compiled into a Toolkit available for download here or for order at cost at www.blurb.com."

Call for proposals 13/11/2009 First deadline: January 16th 2010 Part of the EU's Lifelong Learning Programme, Grundtvig aims to increase participation in adult education, improve co-operation between adult education organisations, and ensure that the socially excluded have access to education - especially those who left education without basic qualifications. Grundtvig supports the following actions: * Visits, placements, adult education exchanges and preparation visits needed to plan exchanges * Learning Partnerships * Multilateral projects for improving adult education systems through development and transfer of innovation and good practice * Networks of experts and organisations developing adult education spreading good practice and supporting partnerships Multilateral projects, Networks, and Accompanying measures are financed directly by the Commission.   • $1,000 grants have proven they can change the lives of low-income individuals of potential in the Twin Cities. With 60 million living below the poverty line in the United States, and 400,000 low-income in the Twin Cities alone, the MicroLoan/Grant concept can help individuals and families of potential move out of poverty to a middle and upper-middle class standard. A significant percent of those 400,000 low-income in the Twin Cities are energetic people of potential. With a boost up of $1,000 or more with some mentoring from our volunteers, they would be able to change their lives dramatically.

  • In 1981, Garrison Keillor, the popular host of Minnesota Public Radio’s satirical “A Prairie Home Companion,” offered listeners a free poster of his mythical sponsor’s “Powdermilk Biscuits.” To everyone’s surprise, more than 50,000 requests poured in; the station faced a $60,000 printing bill. To avert “financial disaster,” as MPR president William Kling later recalled, the station used the back of the poster to advertise products for sale, such as a Powdermilk Biscuits T-shirt. The idea worked. “I think we netted off that poster, which was really our first catalog, $15,000 or $20,000,” Kling said. “It instantly became clear that there were things like that you could do.”1
