The Cultural Forum proudly presents the Pacific Northwest Art Annual. This yearly juried exhibition was created to highlight emerging and established artists in our regions art world. This year, we are excited to be showing the work of over 15 artists ranging from traditional painters to mixed media artists, from May 5th to May 31st. There will be a reception for the opening day on May 5th at 2pm, featuring the local art, free food, and live music. The 2014 winner of this juried competition will be also announced.

Protesters are angry about the government spending billions on World Cup infrastructure rather than basic public services. Super bright, feisty eight-year-old Alice Quivery challenges the strictures of Victorian society by happily following a pocket watch-toting White Rabbit down a magical hole into the quirky world of Wonderland. Help Alice as she tromps through a fantastical forest and struggles to grasp nonsensical celebrity Tweets, learn hip hop dance moves, and win a battle of wills with a Hatter who considers Twilight a serious work of nonfiction. Appropriate for all ages, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland powerfully recasts the beloved children's classic by artfully infusing Victorian mores with modern popular culture.

These two contemporary Oregon artists offer two substantially different but equally innovative approaches to figurative art. Hamilton, born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1972, found her true home when she moved to Portland in 1996. After painting for almost twenty years, her artistic practice was transformed when she visited a non-traditional textile arts exhibition. From there she was inspired to fuse the two parts of her life that were closest to her-her daily urban environment and her grandmother's tradition of crochet. Often portraying friends and co-workers from her days in the food-service industry, Hamilton's work displays a whimsical and affectionate vision of working-class Portland. As her work has progressed, she has taken on other subjects as well, including mug shots from Multnomah County, industrial landscapes of Portland, and full-figure nudes.
