Journal of Education Policy; Sep2010, Vol. 25 Issue 5, p625-637, 13p This article looks at the topic of international student education and its cost/benefits to the students, thier country of origin as well as to the host country. It tries to support the notion that most times these international students are coming from poorer countries and as such the influx of resources, both financial and intellectual is escaping those country's into the host country.

Fidler, Deborah J., Karen Caplovitz Barrett, and David E. Most. "Age-Related Differences in Smiling and Personality in Down Syndrome." Journal of Developmental and Physical Disabilities 17.3 (2005), 263 - 280. This article discusses differences of patients of different ages with Down syndrom. Ages in the study ranged from 5-20 years. This was an observational study done to draw inferences about smiling and personality traits. Their results were conclusive. Smile deration decreased with age and anxiousness increased with age.

Byrne, Angela, John MacDonald, and Sue Buckley. "Reading, language and memory skills: A comparative longitudinal study of children with Down syndrome and their mainstream peers." British Journal of Educational Psychology 72.4 (2002), 513-529. This article shares that in the past, people with Down Syndrome have never had the chance to learn to read. Now, many kids with this disablilty are able to get in education, which led to a study. This is a study done on the development of people with Down Syndrome over a period of time. The article shares information on longituninal study that tested the development of reading, language, and memory skills. The article concludes that reading has no effect on the enhancement of language and memory development in children with Down Syndrome.

It then goes in to how believable the students thought the different sources were.

Even some students are getting tutored for regular classes just to get a good grade. These students are trying to get ahead of everyone, to help them succeed in their field. Peer tutoring impacts those who want a good gpa, it gives them an extra edge to do better than others.

It also talks about two pain points in how autistic children develop their literacy techniques. Experts believe that learning literacy early on for autistic children will not determine their total oral language development. They need to look at reading and writing as communication practices from an early age. It is also talks about how speech production can be improved through writing instructions. Social interaction is a large part of developing literacy.

Research has found that oral language skills of autistic children are similar in their reading development. Teachers are trying to prepare children with ASD for standardized tests of literacy, and progress in higher levels of academics. Reading skills can improve their oral skills as well.

Web. 18 Nov. 2010. The autism growth rate in normal classrooms has gone up about 5%, so teachers are now more straightforward with their literacy teachings. For autistic kids to develop literacy skills, they should be placed in classrooms with people of the same age. Studies have shown that students with autism who had been placed in a normal classroom at a young age have better communication and interaction skills with others. Having autistic children in normal classrooms has also pushed teachers into further analyzing their students, and pay more attention to assignments.

American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 6/1/2006, Vol. 63 Issue 11, p1048-1055, 8p A study done where patients who had a varied reading level below the sixth grade level, were asked to interpret the warning labels for the pill pescriptions. What they found out was that the correctness of the group, was from 0% to 78.7% on the warning labels. As expected there was a consistancy of the lower Literacy rates having a lower correctness rate as well.

This article was written on a study done on the affect of social support on limited-literacy patients and there willingness to get help when it comes to reading instructions on their medication and, basic health literacy. What they found out was that unless there was someone they could trust imensly, they would not seek help when it came to understanding directions, or getting info on health literacy.

It gets into the responsiblilty of the pharmacists to make sure that what is put on the labels to medication, is understandable to the common man. It talks about the numerous times where the patients misread the directions, or just did not understand the directions by the Pharmacy, and the labels to the medication.

This article focuses on the United States and the need to incorporate global education within a student's education. With domestic diversity within America and the constant flow of immigrants, gaining more insight about other cultures and ways of life is beneficial and essential when interacting with people from different backgrounds. Unfamiliar groups, cultures and languages can produce anxiety and hostility from those who don't understand or are ignorant to other cultures. This article offers several suggestions for teacher to go about incorporating global education into many different subjects.

One of the techniques used is POVM, which teaches children to maintain a conversation with a conversant. This study also helps improve vocal behavior, and eye contact. This practice has been shown to improve joint attention, self help, academic instruction, communication, and community survival. The use of these videos have also improved social skills in autistic people.

Web. 17 Nov. 2010. In this article, Susan Landt focuses on the importance of integrating multicultural literature into studies, especially at the adolescent level. Introducing multicultural literature into the classroom is necessary in providing a wider view that opens students to insights of other cultures. Landt claims that if multicultural literature were an integrated part of education teachers wouldn't be struggling to incorporate diversity and multicultural education in their classes. Several important reasons for this assimilation is to acknowledge the many cultures and their contributions to the world. It also helps to bring children into contact with other cultures and helps them to develop awareness at an early age, which will encourage respect for all peoples.

This article is about children with autism developing language. Children with autism are typically at a lower level of language as opposed to children with PDD-NOS. Early language abilities are a sign of better language later on with children with autism. Some children with autism are nonverbal through the first two years. Different findings of speech with people with autism demonstrate a child's behavior skills, imitations of adult speech, and language skills.The SLP recommends the predicators to focus on supporting children with autism so they can learn how to speak.

This article was about a study that was conducted on students from Herkimer County Community College. The study was a nutritional survey that was created to examine the nutritional knowledge and exercise habits of college students. In addition to this the study also took the students MBI before they took the exam. Majoirty of the 453 that students of that took survey failed to know basic knowledge of nutrition. In addition to this many of these students 40% of the students were overweight.

The purpose was to see how they spent their credit card money, and what knowledge, if any, they possessed. Financial knowledge was huge in this study when it came to smart spending. However, the article also says that many college students that had a high level of intelligence when it came to financial knowledge still had large credit card balances. This journal article shows that even people who are educated in financial literacy still can have major credit card debts and problems with spending.
