The Pan African University (PAU) seeks to develop institutions of excellence in science, technology, innovation, social sciences, and governance in Africa. The African Union offers the Pan African University Scholarship for masters and PhD degree programs at four PAU Institutes (in Algeria, Cameroon, Kenya, and Nigeria). Subject areas for the postgraduate educational programs include agriculture, water resources, arid lands management, energy, environmental management, and many others -- varying among the PAU Institutes.

"The International Centre for development oriented Research in Agriculture (ICRA) is offering two 3-week courses for which registration has just opened, one targeted at lecturers and researchers working in tertiary agricultural education, and the other targeted at professionals involved in facilitating and coaching rural innovation. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training is a five-year program activity that enables teachers to better prepare youth for employment in the Lower Mekong countries of Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam through the use of innovative training approaches. USAID works to bridge the gap between the private sector, universities and vocational centers to build up the supply of skilled workers to meet the demands of local businesses. The project partners with local education providers to utilize available technology, online learning and traditional in-person workshops to promote learning and regional networking in targeted Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) countries in ways that help residents from rural and marginalized areas access educational services.

The EGALE project will support partner HEIs in the development of an international consortium and new third level curricula (PhD) complying with international standards and capitalising on local expertise, including the spread of innovative and powerful teaching technologies such as distance learning. Relevant staff of the participating HEIs will be targeted to increase their qualifications.

"Organizations in developing countries are invited to submit a project proposal that addresses a horticultural problem facing local farmers, which would also include the involvement of a graduate student consultant. The maximum funding available for each project is $2,000 USD, with funding available for 15 projects. The deadline to submit proposals is Jan. 18, 2016"

WYG and Natural Resources Institute (NRI) are pleased to launch the call for concept notes for the Sustainable Agricultural Intensification Research and Learning Programme in sub-Saharan Africa (SAIRLA) research opportunity. SAIRLA is a five-year programme, from 2015 to 2020, which will commission research and facilitate learning to understand different ways of achieving Sustainable Agricultural Intensification (SAI) and their developmental implications. Its key focus is on assessing how SAI can be promoted in ways that enable women and poorer smallholders in Africa to participate in and benefit from agricultural development through SAI approaches. SAIRLA's research projects will generate new evidence and decision-making support tools to help decision makers create an enabling environment for poorer smallholder farmers, especially women and youth, to engage in Sustainable Agricultural Intensification.

Youth in Rural Advisory Services are crucial to develop and sustain effective, efficient, inclusive, and sustainable RAS systems. But youth in RAS is a complex issue, with many challenges - and opportunities - faced on different levels by many actors. In the GFRAS creative competition "Youth in RAS" young people working in agriculture and/or RAS were invited to reflect this topic in a creative way. The submissions were presented at the 6th GFRAS Annual Meeting and two winners selected.
