the Finland Phenomenon - 3 views

  •
This is a video I think everybody should see. It is the story behind Finland´s educational system. The reason for tagging this video is the general idea you get for their success. It shows us the theory we are studying and the possible application. Although I don´t think it is possible to implement this system in Spain because of the big social and cultural differences it gives you a good idea about how it could be. In the video they talk about the differences, their curriculum, assessment, objectives, planning, tasks, their aims, some activities, the way students are invited to make their own decisions etc. Have a look, it's a real eye opener.

I´ve been fascinated with this documentary. It´s very interesting and amazing the educational process in Finland. Really I would like to learn much of this system, but the first thinking come to my mind is we are years behind. I understand is other culture and society, when they speak about the trust in everybody related with education, is something unthinkable here, by bad luck. This is a very recommendable video, you don´t believe you are going to lose an hour see it. I´ve finished very motivated, and I would want to know more closer this system, if could possible, visiting Finland.

ABOUT RECONCEPTUALIZATION IN CURRICULUM - 2 views

  •
Hi group! I've found this interesting article. And I've just posted it on the blog. It's about reconceptualization in Curriculum Studies. It explains the meaning of this concept and the influence of history by shaping what is thinkable or not. Reconceptualization does not end; it is fluid, ongoing, situational, it disarticulates static forms and It's directly linked with the cognition process. I wish you enjoy with it.

I consider that reading this document can help us in order to know what kind of intelligences prevail in some of the activities that we do in class (very useful for the portfolio). I believe that the intelligence is more prevalent in my is the naturalistic, because since childhood I've loved animals and nature. I'd like to know what is the intelligence which prevails in all of you to be able to know you a little more. Thank you again!

Storytelling resource - 5 views

Hi classmates! I want to share with you a quite helpuf resource I've found on the net. As we all know and as we have been told since the beginning of our lessons, storytelling can be perfect tool for English lessons. On this web, we as teachers and our pupils can create our own stories in a dynamyc and funny way. First of all, you have to choose the theme the story is going to be about and the grade of your pupils. Afterwards, it appears a kind of spin with different levers, and so comes to the screen aleatory facts to make an story. Afterwards, we can choose the format for our story and we can select the option of making a draw. Once we have completed this step, it's time to write the story and make a picture if we want. Finally, you can download the story in your computer. I would like you to have a look at this fantastic resource which appart from working storytellings, promotes the use of the ICT's. I hope you enjoy it.

English Language Competences: PLANNING …(through Modernized Curriculum analys... - 3 views

  •
This is an interesting and briefly presentation about some different items that we have studied in that course. For instance, this presentation talks about premises of Curriculum, give definitions about content, objectives, CEFR structure... Also it´s talk in depth about communicative language competences and linguistic domains. For last, it´s talk about the 5 skills and the Common Reference levels o Language Proficiency (A1,A2,B1,B2...) Is very interesting because it teaches you that everything is related. In that website you can find another interesting presentations abour other tasks as portfolio... I would like to finish that summary with the last sentence of the presentation: "Don't be afraid to have an open-minded look to so many unknown and unfamiliar things around us… we have just to try to discover them unconditionally!Success!" I believe that this attitude is that we need to keep improving!!!

Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences - 4 views

  •
Hello again! This web talks about multiple intelligences, a theme that we have studied last year and these days too. As we have talked in our classes, we can use different materials or tools in order to attend all types of intelligences because all people are different in different ways. We have to take into account the needs and interests of our pupils, we must be flexible teachers. I want to highlight one of the statements of Gardner that, to my mind, defines exactly what we have to do in the practice. "It's very important that a teacher take individual differences among kids very seriously. The bottom line is a deep interest in children and how their minds are different from one another, and in helping them use their minds well." On the other hand, if you want to know the intelligence that prevails in you, you can check out this page http://quizfarm.com/quizzes/Inteligencias+Multiples/profesorrod/test-de-inteligencias-multiples/ Till the next!

Storytelling: The very hungry caterpillar - 0 views

  •
Hi classmates! This is my second contribution in diigo. Last week we had an exhibition of storytelling. One of the stories that the professional told us was "the very hungry caterpillar", written by Eric Carle. I strongly believe that tell our students this story could be very useful, especially because it contains lots of interesting vocabulary. Here, in this page, you can find plenty of activities that will reinforce the vocabulary learnt by the students. As we have seen this weeks in the university, English classroom is dominated by the textbook. It decides what we have to do in the classroom. Nevertheless, we can use a lot of resources in order to produce intrinsic motivation in our pupils. I consider that storytelling can be a good learning tool because it promotes among other things, creativity and imagination. Furthermore, if we use stories in class, we will encourage the development of language among students. Here you can read the story http://www.hubbardscupboard.org/Very_Hungry_Caterpillar_Printable_Booklet.PDF I hope you like it!

This article presents a reflection about evaluation process of EFL in Primary Education. It also offers the principles of evaluation, as well as teachers' daily duties, which require them to observe, keep records, and analyze the evaluation process. It deals with the influence that the European Framework has in the evaluation of pupils' capacities in Primary.

I really like the activity that appears on page 72. I think it is an activity that can be used perfectly in class and it can be very useful to teachers in order to know the evolution of their pupils in the five skills. Thanks for this contribution.

Student peer assessment - 2 views

  •
Hello to everyone! This is a short article that talks about peer assessment, an evaluation technique very interesting. This document emphasizes that peer and self assessment are key strategies to involve students in taking more responsibility for their own learning. While the benefits may not initially be obvious to students, this process offers a means of enhancing the learning experience and developing key capabilities in our students. The document also refers to the advantages and disadvantages of this type of assessment. Perhaps the biggest drawback is that it requires greater involvement by the teacher. Throughout the article, I'll take this vital phrase from my point of view: "Peer and self-assessment help students develop the ability to make judgements, a necessary skill for study and professional life" (Brown, Rust and Gibbs, 1994). Self and peer-assessment are often combined or considered together. They have many potential advantages in common. For instance, peer assessment can help self-assessment. By judging the work of others, students gain insight into their own performance.

assessment instruments - 7 views

  •
This is a research project which are analyzed the assessment instruments that the foreign language teachers usually use in their classrooms. The aim of this project is very clear: the teachers who participate in this project must identify their own mistakes (in the assessment field) and finally correct them. As the majority of foreign language teachers, specifically, of our country, these teachers don't plead for an assessment which exist a feedback between the teachers and the pupils. We know that this feedback is the better way for get a fair assessment, but perhaps by the lack of time... They use these instruments. I recommend take a look to the annexes.

Assessment of Young Learners - 10 views

This article discusses different types of assessment and recognizes the importance of affective considerations for the acquisition of a foreign or second language.
  •
I find this article quite interesting, especially the last part that talks about the portfolio. I think that the author explains briefly and simply in what it consists. On the other hand, I agree with the writer's conclusions. I strongly believe that we must use various assessment tools in the classroom of FL in order to be as objective as possible and to develop all the skills and abilities of the student. As we have just seen in class the exam tests serves for the memory capacity but does not encourage critical thinking and autonomy on the part of the learner. Thank you so much for sharing it!
  •
This article emphasizes the need for teachers to use a variety of types of alternative assessments. I think it could be quite useful to remind us the different techniques of assessment that we can do and the most important thing: they can be used every day in our class. We have to start to discard the traditional tests that only indicated us a numerical description about our students. In our future we are going to be teachers so we have to be aware of the different kind of assessment to take them into practice. Rather useful the article.

Classroom Assessment for Learning - 2 views

Here you have a small article of 5 pages which I found very interesting to share with you. In this article we can find interesting issues about assessment for learning. The article says that: "Classroom assessment that involves students in the process and focuses on increasing learning can motivate rather than merely measure students." When students are active characters of their own education the outcomes are better. Also gives interesting clues about how to involve students in their own teaching-learning process and have a section about effective teacher feedback. Contains reviews of many important authors. I advise my classmates that take a look at this article because it's really interesting.
