Trouble with Rubrics - 0 views
-
“we need to look to the piece of writing itself to suggest its own evaluative criteria” – a truly radical and provocative suggestion.
-
Thus, the dilemma: Either our instruction and our assessment remain “out of synch” or the instruction gets worse in order that students’ writing can be easily judged with the help of rubrics.
-
In fact, when the how’s of assessment preoccupy us, they tend to chase the why’s back into the shadows.

Bringing The World To The Classroom With SMS « Mr Robbo - The P.E Geek - 0 views
-
The students were thinking about who would be likely to help them complete their questions, which ultimately helped them identify their own Personal Learning Networks. Which is helpful for them establishing who they could contact for help in the future.
-
The students were able to use SMS to collectively gather responses from a wide range of people from outside the school community. As a result the broad range of views enabled a more diverse range of discussions to take place

Our aim is to help students learn to be smart consumers of these messages, not to accept them at face value; to dig for facts using the Internet, not to stop looking once they get to Wikipedia; and to weigh evidence logically, not to draw conclusions based on their own biases. The materials on this site, then, are meant to help students acquire the skills to see through the spin. Under the heading Tools of the Trade we’ve outlined a five-step framework for analyzing information and avoiding deception. That process is the essence of what we do at FactCheck.org, where we have been debunking false and misleading claims in politics since 2003.
