"After reading many articles and comments from teachers, I notice a common question is "Are there any good apps for free?" The answer is yes! In addition, many apps offer a "lite" version to try before purchasing. Many of the lite versions just have advertisements so it's well worth installing, if it is a good app. "

Moving the 'un-moveable' teacher | IPAD 4 SCHOOLS - 0 views

"The main point this diagram illustrates for me is not so much the types of teachers in a school but the percentages of those types in existence. The sharp end of the pencil represents the teachers who choose to regularly update their knowledge and practice in teaching approach and use of technology and yes, it's only 10-15%. Educations biggest influencers are the majority of teachers who either expect & wait for professional development to be delivered to them (wood), feel they require no PD at all (Ferrules) or try to reverse any example of progression from that which worked 20 years ago (Erasers). My own school has been BYOD for 4 years and can still claim the same percentages displayed in the pencil above (I've only been there a year). The first question that every teacher/leader at the summit should have been asking themselves is "How do I affect genuine change in the majority of those I work with?" This was the heart of my presentation."
Excellent Tools, Apps, and Tips to Create Educational Book Trailers ~ Educational Techn... - 3 views

"There are several ways to use technology to engage students and enhance their literacy skills and one of them is through creating video book trailers. Yes, they are similar to movie trailers we see now on YouTube but they are different in scope. A video book trailer is a concise review of a book created with the help of a variety of digital tools that include : images, text, clips, voiceovers, recordings, and music."
What If Every Teacher Tweeted? - 0 views
-
"What if every teacher tweeted? Is there some kind of sequence of events we might expect? A teacher signs up for twitter after agonizing over the details (username, avatar, bio, etc.), follows a few dozen people, then sits slack-jawed and confused as that non-stop digital stream begins. We have to assume that somehow this trickles down to the learning experiences of the students-their writing, their skills, and the wandering of their thoughts-yes? No reason to tweet just to be all avant-garde about it all. It depends on how it's used-twitter, that is. Like any tool, twitter is designed for a task. The results of that task depends on the knowledge and skill of its user. There is nothing other-wordly about twitter, if we're being honest. It has its talents (a few of which we looked at in why twitter works in education), but it is, in shorty, some thing some one made. And as teachers, we can use it, or leave it alone."
12 podcasts that will tell you a fantastic story - 4 views

"It's official - the popular podcast Serial has surpassed 5 million downloads, making it the fastest podcast of all time to reach this milestone. This tells us that people really like murder mysteries, but also confirms something else we've known for a long time - listeners want to hear a good story. Unsolved murders are compelling, yes, but Serial is compelling because it puts the listener as close as one can possibly get to an event that happened in 1999."

Comfortably 2.0: Great Apps to Complement Your iMovie App - 0 views

"The iMovie app could possibly be my favorite app on my iPad. It's a versatile app that can lead to a whole lot of creation in your classroom Yes, I know that iMovie on my MacBook Pro has all the bells and whistles, but I believe that the app has all the ingredients to make some pretty powerful products in your classroom. I love the fact that the app allows our students (and us) to make thinking visible. There are so many ways that you can use iMove in the classroom. From knowledge to comprehension, every level of Bloom's taxonomy is easily addressed using the iMovie app. I plan on teaching our K-5 students how to use the iMovie app in the coming weeks and I can't wait to see the creativity that is generated! The best thing about iMovie is that you can use it with a lot of other apps! App Smashing? Try using iMovie as the final app to display your app smash. Just drop your products in from the photo library, do a voice over and you have created a product that allows you to showcase the learning happening in your classroom! I have created a folder on my iPad of apps that I use to supplement some of the videos that I produce. Here are some of my favorites:"

The First Secret of Developing a Leader | Leadership Freak - 1 views

"I stood and embraced Jack when he walked into the coffee shop where I was meeting with a young leader. Jack's in his 80's and an elder statesman in the community where I live. He looked at the young man, then back at me, and asked, "Is he a good student?" Jack's question made me a little uncomfortable. I wasn't sure why. I said, "Yes, he's a great student," and left it at that. On the way home, about an hour later, it hit me. Josh wasn't the student. I was."

"Although American University student Cooper Nordquist, 21, uses his laptop most of the day, he still likes to read from the printed word for enjoyment. Despite that fact that most college students do a majority of their socializing and school work electronically, many still like to read from actual hard copy printed books. (Michael S. Williamson/The Washington Post)"
A handy flowchart for enhancing classroom discussion - Daily Genius - 1 views
-
"Do you like to have a free-flowing exchange of ideas in the classroom? Do you encourage and nurture dissenting opinions? Do your students feel empowered to voice their thoughts and critiques of research or ideas? If you answered 'YES' to all of the above questions, you're leading a fantastic classroom filled with a lot of engaging discussion. Bravo! But if you aren't satisfied with the level of discourse taking place in (and out of) the classroom, then this flowchart from Wonkblog is for you. It's designed to help anyone (not just students or teachers) engage in a discussion about a topic they don't agree with. For example, let's say a student cites some research in a project-based learning assignment that another student doesn't think is quite relevant. How would that student voice his or her opinion? Is interrupting okay? Is one opinion better than another?"
Students Explain Engaging Assignments - 6 views

"by Grant Wiggins, Ed.D, Authentic Education This post is a follow-up to our recent post, Students Learn Best When You Do This. Now, in my final post from students at a typical US High School, I end on an upbeat note: what students say is the best assignment they have had this year. Again, I picked the first 47 answers at random. (Ed note: 2-numbers 28 and 40-were brutally honest, yes?)"
How to use the Lock screen on iPhone or iPad: The ultimate guide | iMore - 0 views
-
"The Lock screen exists in between states, when your iPhone or iPad is no longer asleep, but is also not yet open and fully functional. It can protect your device from unauthorized access and actions by a simple slide-to-unlock gesture, by a 4 number pin-code, by a strong alpha-numeric password, or Apple's Touch ID fingerprint identity scanner. Yet the Lock screen can be functional as well. If you want to, you can access Notification Center and Control Center, the Camera, and Siri. On the iPhone, you can even make emergency calls. Yes, the Lock screen can be secure or it can be convenient, it's entirely up to you!"
